successfully began a rollout of 22 million Java Card
technology-powered IC (Integrated Circuit) health cards to Taiwan
citizens in July, replacing its original paper-based system. Important
data recorded on the card can only be accessed when
the security key codes of both the doctor's and patient's cards are
mutually authenticated to avoid privacy violation.
The Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) 1.0 specification defines
a common XML framework for exchanging security assertions among
security authorities. The primary goal is to achieve interoperability
across different vendor platforms that provide authentication and
authorization services.
The Sun ONE Identity Server (formerly iPlanet Identity Server: Access Management Edition) 6.0 will support the open industry standard
SAML specification as the framework for interoperability across
different security domains, applications and security infrastructure.
Low cost hardware and large, dense computing environments normally
drive customers to require an unbundled support offering -- a portfolio
where they can buy software support independent of hardware support.
Therefore, Sun is offering SunSpectrum Hardware Only (HWON) and
SunSpectrum Software-Only (SWON) support contracts for the Sun LX50
server.
Solaris Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) Services and the
Sun WBEM Software Development Kit (SDK) are the implementation from
Sun of the emerging WBEM standards for the Solaris Operating
Environment (Solaris OE). Integrated with Java technology-based
services, the Sun WBEM SDK makes it easier for software developers to
create applications based on the CIM schema and XML/HTTP communication
standards.
The Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) Infrastructure Products:
Services Integration course demonstrates how Sun offers an integrated
product line of standards-based servers to build the infrastructure for
Sun ONE Services on Demand. Sun ONE Portal Server: Personalized
Knowledge Services: Installation and Configuration is a new Web-based
course that serves as an introduction to Sun ONE Portal Server:
Personalized Knowledge Services, 3.01C. (The Sun ONE Portal Server was formerly the iPlanet Portal Server.)
Beta testers are needed to help test Sun Download Manager 1.0 (SDM)
software, a Java technology GUI-based
download manager. The Sun Download Manager software works on any platform running Java 2
Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) v1.2.2 or higher.
The beta program will run during September 2002.
The RDBSpace project is an implementation of a JavaSpaces service
specification that utilizes a relational database back-end for
persistent storage of tuples. By relying on native
database technologies, RDBSpace can provide advanced functionality to
the JavaSpaces service, such as replication, clustering,
backup/recovery and encryption.
Take a virtual tour inside the Sun Fire Midframe and High-end servers
to discover how the Sun Fire Midframe and High-end server family delivers
a Business Ready Infrastructure.
The Sun Fire 4810 server helps lower TCO with Dynamic
Reconfiguration (DR) which keeps applications up and running. DR is
part of the Solaris Operating Environment (Solaris OE) 8, 02/02 and
enables you to dynamically reconfigure, remove or install core system
components into your server.
Sun has released two new Sun Fire 280R server 900 MHz UltraSPARC
III Cu configurations that ship with the Solaris 8 Operating
Environment (Solaris OE) installed. These replace two existing low 900
MHz UltraSPARC III Cu configurations, which are being transitioned.
These configurations use new memory DIMMs that are being announced
separately.
Sun StorEdge Configuration Service software for the Sun
StorEdge T3 array is a new product that delivers a centralized,
Web-based management platform to help simplify storage and IT
operations. The software can discover, monitor and configure Sun
StorEdge T3 arrays from a single management console.
The Sun StorEdge Performance Suite 4.0 software (which replaces Sun
StorEdge Performance Suite 3.5 software) combined with Sun
StorEdge QFS software provides a highly scalable, true shared file
system with exceptional performance for accessing data and for built-in
volume management.
The Sun StorEdge Utilization Suite 4.0 software with Sun
StorEdge SAM-FS is a complete file system with archiving, quick
restore and disaster recovery capability, as well as built in volume
management. The Sun StorEdge Utilization Suite enables customers to
drastically reduce their backup window and to quickly backup/archive
and restore their data from local or remote storage with disk-to-disk
archiving.
The Access1.sun.com Tech Notes Web site contains technical details for
invoking Instruction Set Architecture (ISA)-specific application binary
using isaexec(3C). This tech tip (document ID 01585) is for the
Solaris Operating Environment (Solaris OE) (SPARC Platform
Edition) version 7 and above.
OpenSSL_0.9.6e is now available for download for Solaris Operating
Environment (Solaris OE) (SPARC Platform Edition) 9, 8, 7, 2.6,
2.5 and for Solaris OE (Intel Platform Edition) 8. In addition, GNU
gcc 3.2 compiler suite has been released
with 64-bit support executables where appropriate for Solaris 7 and 8
OE (SPARC Platform Edition).
O'Reilly has just released the second edition of "Learning
Java" providing comprehensive coverage of all Java 1.4 language

The Omniscient Debugging (ODB) tool allows
developers to step backwards through the execution of a program to
determine where and how programming errors occur. Knowing all previous values for the
application's objects and variables simplifies the task of debugging
programs significantly.
There is an updated and expanded ten-part tutorial available on the
Java technology Web site that provides an introduction to the
Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE). The first lesson in the
tutorial, "A Simple Servlet," introduces Java servlets, one of the
primary components of the J2EE platform.
JavaServer Faces technology v. 1.0 Early Access 2 is a user
interface (UI) framework that simplifies building Web applications that run
on a JavaServer engine and render the UI back to the client. These
Web applications handle all of the complexity of managing the user
interface on the server.
