The Solaris Developer Connection program Web site recently had a
technical article titled "Introduction to Interprocess Communication
Using Named Pipes" by Faisal Faruqui. Named pipes allow two unrelated
processes to communicate with each other. They are also known as FIFOs
(first-in, first-out) and can be used to establish a one-way
(half-duplex) flow of data. Faruqui defines
and explains the benefits of named pipes and provides
code samples of half-duplex and of a full-duplex communication.
