Cell Phones Communicate Real-Time Data to Web Browsers

The OBD2 Scan Tool developed by Visual Training Technologies Inc. (VTTi) combines wireless and Java technologies to collect automotive diagnostic information and report it to a Web browser and a mobile phone display. A Java technology-based midlet (MIDP), which resides in the memory of Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME)-compliant cell phone, can simulate a working instrument cluster, display diagnostic codes and present information that helps technicians troubleshoot an electrical fault. The cell phone communicates with the automobile or truck through the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) connector.

      Apache Web Server Chunk Handling Vulnerability

      There is a remotely exploitable vulnerability in the way that Apache Web servers (or other Web servers based on their source code) handle data encoded in chunks. This vulnerability is present by default in configurations of Apache Web server versions 1.2.2 and above, 1.3 through 1.3.24 and versions 2.0 through 2.0.36. Sun are presently producing patches for this issue for Solaris 8 OE and Solaris 9 OE, which will be available from the SunSolve program Web site.
