Oracle9i Database Release 2 Sets Record TPC-H Benchmark
Running on the Sun Fire 15K Server

Recent performance tests of Oracle9i Database Release 2 running on the Sun Fire 15K server, Sun StorEdge arrays and the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) platform have established Sun as the fastest performing and best price/performance system on the market. The benchmark was performed on a 72-processor 1050 MHz Sun Fire 15K system running the Solaris 9 Operating Environment (Solaris OE) and Oracle9i Database, topping the performance of the 128 CPU HP and NCR systems.

At the Sixth Jini Community Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, June 17-20, 2002, Sun announced that Jiro technology is migrating to the Jini Community program. Paul Monday, coauthor of "The Jiro Technology Programmer's Guide and Federated Management Architecture," has agreed to be the community project lead.

    Mobile IP for the Solaris 9 Operating Environment

    Mobile Internet Protocol (IP) has been available in the Solaris OE since June 2000. Mobile IP enables the transfer of information between mobile computers. The Solaris OE home and foreign agents support dynamic control of IPSec policies. The Solaris 9 Operating Environment (Solaris OE) also introduces foreign agent support for mobility advertisements and connection over dynamic interfaces. It supports IP version 4 (IPv4) and is easy to configure.

    Netscape 6.2.3 Software

    Netscape 6.2.3 software for the Solaris Operating Environment (Solaris OE) is a new version of the first Internet software to seamlessly integrate browsing, email and instant messaging. New features include Themes (or "skins"), tabs for My Sidebar, support for multiple email accounts (including Netscape WebMail) and Java integration support. Older versions of Netscape are also available.

        Apache Web Server Chunk Handling Vulnerability

        There is a remotely exploitable vulnerability in the way that Apache Web servers (or other Web servers based on their source code) handle data encoded in chunks. This vulnerability is present by default in configurations of Apache Web server versions 1.2.2 and above, 1.3 through 1.3.24 and versions 2.0 through 2.0.36. Sun are presently producing patches for this issue for Solaris 8 OE and Solaris 9 OE, which will be available from the SunSolve program Web site.
