ForteTM for JavaTM 3.0 integrated development environment (IDE) was
named "Best Java IDE" at the JavaWorldTM Editors' Choice awards ceremony
on March 25th.
During the judging process, JavaWorld publication author and judge Abraham Kang,
security architect at Jamcracker, said, "Forte for Java really shows
the benefits of JavaTM technology: functionality, beauty and
cross-platform compatibility."
Forte for Java IDE is based on the NetBeansTM open source platform.
"NetBeans is easily my favorite IDE. It works everywhere I want to work--
Linux, SolarisTM Operating Environment (Solaris OE) and Windows.
With its open APIs, it is incredibly
flexible," said James Gosling, father of Java technology and Sun vice
president and fellow.
A tradition since 1997, the JavaWorld Editors' Choice Awards (ECA)
honor companies, organizations and individuals for developing
groundbreaking valuable tools that advance the Java platform. This
year, vendors, readers and JavaWorld publication authors and editors nominated more
than 200 tools and technologies in ten categories. From those
nominations, an eight-judge panel of JavaWorld publication writers selected one
winner and two finalists in each category. In casting their votes, the
judges thoroughly evaluated the features and functions of each
technology or tool and its influence on Java technology.
