Sun now offers a new software license for only 50 users of SunTM Mainframe Transaction Processing Software 7.2. This license is for customers with small production environments who are looking for lower entry prices when rehosting on Sun.

These products allow mainframe applications running on IBM and PCM (Amdahl, HDS) mainframes to be rehosted on SunTM systems running SolarisTM Operating Environment (Solaris OE). They allow the applications to be moved to the Sun environment with little or no change. Product system requirements are UltraSPARCTM server platform running Solaris 7 or 8 OE for development systems. UltraSPARCTM III platforms require Solaris 8 OE.

Sun Mainframe Transaction Processing Software supports enterprise applications without extensive rewriting or re-engineering of the original application. Integrate new processes and ideas into existing legacy applications by using JavaTM technology-based tools and beans to build enterprise components.

Sun Mainframe Transaction Processing Software helps protect mainframe application assets by providing a mainframe CICS compatible software environment on Solaris OE. Existing COBOL, C and/or PL/1 applications and sequential, VSAM, or and/or DB2 data files can be easily migrated onto Sun servers. Sun Mainframe Transaction Processing Software also includes a real-time performance monitor to report the rehosted CICS transaction workload on Solaris OE, plus an optional security system similar to mainframe RACF or Top Secret.
