Sun is transitioning the Sun StorEdgeTM 9900 Series HiCommand Software Version 1.0 with the introduction of Sun StorEdgeTM HiCommand Software Version 2.0. Sun StorEdge HiCommand Software Version 2.0 provides increased functionality to Version 1.0 in the following areas:

  • Sun StorEdgeTM T3 Array support
  • Sun HighGround Link and Launch capability
  • Support for additional Sun StorEdge 9900 System features
  • Enhanced Internationalization support
  • Localization readiness
  • Sun StorEdge HiCommand SDK
  • Web Client enhancements
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and minor enhancements
  • Sun LUSE software
  • Sun CVS software
  • New Reporting Capability

Sun StorEdge 9900 HiCommand Software is a storage management framework for open storage systems, providing open and intuitive tools for centrally managing Sun StorEdge storage systems and subsystems. It also serves as an interface point to higher-level system control software and gathers file level information from the application servers. Sun HighGround SRM Software discovers and maps all devices on a SAN; however, it is concerned with the capacity and performance of the storage devices on the SAN. Sun HighGround SRM measures and reports on SAN performance issues.

To implement Sun StorEdge 9900 HiCommand Software, the customer needs a licensed copy; a Windows NT, Windows 2000, or SolarisTM Operating Environment (Solaris OE) server to run the Sun StorEdge 9900 HiCommand Software Server; one or more supported storage systems; and a Windows 2000 PC to host the optional GUI browser. Sun StorEdge 9900 HiCommand Software includes an install wizard on the CD so that the install process is automated. The Sun StorEdge 9900 HiCommand Software Server must have a TCP/IP connection to all managed storage. While the server does not have to be dedicated, it is the preferred method.

Sun StorEdge 9900 HiCommand Software is licensed on a controller-based total raw capacity basis. One license is required per controller frame. Sun StorEdge 9900 HiCommand Software is licensed per the total raw capacity of the Sun StorEdge 9900 System series controller; licenses are purchased in 1 TB total raw capacity increments and are additive.
