The JavaTM 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EETM) connector
architecture (JCA) is the key component for enterprise application
integration (EAI) in the JavaTM technology platform. In addition to
facilitating enterprise application integration, the connector
architecture helps integrate existing enterprise applications and
information systems with Web services and applications. Two chapters
from a book on this topic are available online from the
Java Developer ConnectionSM (JDC) Program.
The book "J2EE Connector Architecture and Enterprise Application" by Rahul
Sharma, Beth Stearns and Tony Ng is written for
J2EE application developers and addresses the
problems faced by Web-based enterprise environments for integrating
existing enterprise systems and applications.
Rahul Sharma is a senior staff engineer and lead architect of the J2EE
connector architecture with Sun. Beth Stearns is the principal partner
of ComputerEase Publishing, a computer consulting firm.
Tony Ng is a staff engineer with Sun and is currently the project lead
of the JavaTM 2 Software Development Kit and Reference
Implementation. He has designed and implemented a number of Java
technologies, including the J2EE Connector Architecture, the Java
Transaction Service and the J2EE Blueprints.
Chapter 1, "Enterprise Application Integration," describes the state of
enterprise application integration today and shows its evolution.
Chapter 10, "Building a Resource Adapter," describes the steps involved
in building a system-level software driver that provides the connection
to the vendor's EIS.
