Sun Takes Top Spots for Support
Annual Surveys from "Computing Magazine" and "VARBusiness"

Sun recently ranked number one for support in Computing Magazine's 2001 Supplier Survey and in a survey by VARBusiness. Computing Magazine's 2001 Supplier Survey ranked Sun in first place for hardware support. The VARBusiness survey also ranked Sun support first in its field in the Advanced Desktops, Workstations, and Network Storage categories.

New U.S. Training Courses
Sun Fire Servers and Telecommunications

New courses on the U.S. Training Sun Education Web page include Sun Fire Server Technology and Solaris Operating Environment (Solaris OE) and telecommunications courses. Sun training includes courses to manage, administer and maintain Sun Fire servers, including the new Sun Fire 15K Server. The telecommunications courses feature the curriculum from Telecommunications Research Associates (TRA).

Roboteers at Ground Zero Redefine Search and Rescue
Robotic Recovery Team

Shortly after the World Trade Center collapsed, a small team of robots equipped with infrared cameras, biological sensors and voice-activated microphones searched for victims. Researchers at ground zero guided these remote-control robots by sighting passageways in the rubble with virtual reality goggles or video screens and joysticks, steering the machines along crevices considered too dangerous for human or canine rescuers.

    Netra High Availability Suite 2.0 Software

    The Sun beta program for the new Netra High Availability (HA) Suite 2.0 Software comprises a set of HA services that offers a complete, open, carrier-grade high availability (CGHA) system solution. This platform is designed to help network equipment providers (NEPs) reduce the time and costs associated with developing next-generation network infrastructure elements, such as softswitches and core wireless network infrastructure.

    New Sun StorEdge L1000 Configurations
    With Sun StorEdge DLT8000 Drives

    Sun is announcing support for the Sun StorEdge DLT8000 drive technology in the Sun StorEdge L1000 tape library. There is also an end-of-life (EOL) announcement for the Sun StorEdge L1000/DLT7000 drive configurations and remaining Sun StorEdge LibMON Software parts.

    Brocade SilkWorm 6400 Switch
    Sun StorEdge 9900 Series

    Sun is announcing support for the Brocade SilkWorm 6400 64-port 1GB/sec switch for the Sun StorEdge 9900 series. The Brocade SilkWorm 6400 switch, when purchased from Sun and configured per the Sun StorEdge 9900 series matrices, will be supported per the terms of the respective Sun warranty or Service contract.

    New Pricing for Sun Netra st A1000-D1000 Storage Subsystem
    36 GB Configurations

    Network Storage announces a 20-27 percent price reduction on the Sun Netra st A1000/D1000 36 GB configurations. The Netra st A1000/D1000 is a carrier- grade storage subsystem that offers features service providers need for handling large telecom databases and applications such as Web hosting and messaging.

    Sun StorEdge N8000 Product Transition
    New Data Availability for NAS Solution

    Sun is shifting its Network Attached Storage (NAS) product offering from the Sun StorEdge N8000 Filer series to the channel-based, Data Availability for NAS. The Sun StorEdge N8200, N8400 and N8600 products are being EOL'd as a result.
