The Sun StorEdgeTM CompactPCI Dual UltraTM 1 Differential SCSI Host Bus Adapter (HBA) is designed to provide connectivity between the Sun FireTM 3800 and Sun FireTM 6800 servers and the Sun StorEdgeTM A/D1000 arrays, and Sun StorEdgeTM L9, L20, L180,and L1000 tape libraries. Initially, the HBA will only be supported on the Sun Fire 3800 Server. It runs on the SolarisTM 8 Operating Environment (Solaris OE).

The host adapter is based on CompactPCI architecture, permitting the HBA to be a hot swappable component. This key feature increases availability for storage solutions because it allows users to install or remove the adapter without disrupting server operation and other functions of the system. Hot swap will be available when Sun Fire 3800 and 6800 servers support Dynamic Reconfiguration and Hotswap functionalities. This is well suited for customers interested in high availability storage applications.

The Sun StorEdge CompactPCI Dual Ultra1 Differential SCSI Host Bus Adapter supports dual channels, and two models of hot swap: basic and full hot swap.
