GNOME 2.0 Framework and Assistive Technologies
Solutions for Disabled Employees

The early access version of the GNOME 2.0 Accessibility Framework answers the call for accessibility by providing tools to help developers build technologies for employees with disabilities. The built-in, extensible GNOME Accessibility Framework provides the foundation for developers to write accessible applications from the ground up, support existing GNOME applications, and adopt enabling technologies to the UNIXR platform.

GNOME 2.0 Accessibility Framework provides an Accessibility Toolkit and associated implementation library that is integrated with the GTK+ user interface toolkit. This allows developers to use GTK+ widgets to automatically build accessibility applications.

A cross-platform Assistive Technology Service Provider Interface (AT SPI) helps developers interface technologies such as voice command, text-to speech, and screen readers and magnifiers with GNOME accessible applications on a majority of UNIX platforms.

GNOME 2.0 Accessibility Framework provides developers with a simple, built-in framework requiring no major architectural changes and a uniform, single API across all interface components.

There is information available online about developing GNOME accessibility applications.
