Sun Grows UNIX Marketshare in Q2
Increase of 5.5 Percent

During the second quarter of calendar year 2001, Sun was the only vendor to grow UNIX marketshare. According to IDC Q2CY01 Server Tracker report, Sun's total server shipments, including all operating systems, increased 5.5 percent from Q1 to Q2, more than any other top five server vendor.

Sun Grant Supports Bioinformatics Foundation
Open-Source Research Tools

Sun will grant hardware, including servers and a secure storage system, to the Open Bioinformatics Foundation, a group of volunteer developers who create free standards-based tools for life science informatics. The open standards helps with data exchange in the bioinformatics community and saves researchers time and costs.

Sun and Landmark Graphics Solution for Unocal
UltraSPARC III Platform-based Sun Blade 1000 Workstation

Oil and gas company, Unocal, will use Sun technology to visualize seismic data. Visualization software from Landmark Graphics and Sun Blade 1000 workstation with Sun Expert 3D graphics technology are combined with a flat-screen and single stereoscopic projector running on the Solaris 8 Operating Environment (OE). Unocal will use these technologies to help improve departmental-level collaboration and decision-making in oil and gas exploration and production.
