The Sun web site features customer success stories such as how Sun has
partnered with Linuxcare to deliver Sun storage capabilities to the
Linux and open-source community.
Linuxcare and Sun services and solutions deliver a single storage
platform capable of supporting a multi-platform open systems
environment. The multi-platform Sun StorEdgeTM T3 Array offering fulfills a
growing need in the storage arena and represents a strategic solution
for the Linux community.
To meet the growing demands for storage caused by the Net Effect--the
explosive growth of users, volume of data, and type of data--Sun
developed the Sun StorEdge T3 Array. Linuxcare provides comprehensive
professional services and solutions for the Linux operating environment
and open-source technologies.
Sun partnered with Linuxcare to develop a Linux-compatible driver for
the Sun StorEdge T3 array. This driver would provide the Linux
community with a single storage solution for its multi-platform host
platforms. The challenge for Linuxcare was to develop a driver that was
not dependent on a certain type of the UNIXR operating system, could
be easily modified as a module to assist in working with various SAN
devices, and could help provide failover capabilities for maximum
redundancy.
Sun and Linuxcare are striving to make the Sun StorEdge T3 array and
the multi-platform Linux servers compatible in a SAN environment by
testing various configurations using products from some of the top hub
and switch vendors with heavily loaded applications such as Oracle 8i,
Apache Web server, and Sendmail.
