First 24" Flat-panel LCD Monitor and Sun Fire Servers
New Technology for Digital Media and Visualization
At the Siggraph Conference, Sun featured a technology demonstration of the
world's first 24" flat-panel LCD monitor and showcased server-based
graphics demonstrations on its new Sun Fire servers. Sun's booth also
provided Siggraph attendees with interactive demonstrations,
including those from Pixar, WeatherOne, Kewazinga, and Full Sail, Inc.

Achieves Performance Benchmark
The IXOS-eCON server was tested in a performance benchmark performed
jointly with Sun and resulted in high performance and scalability
ratings. The IXOS-eCON server is part of the IXOS-eCON Solution Suite,
which covers all aspects of document management. The IXOS-eCON server
was tested on a Sun Enterprise 6500 Server under the Solaris
Operating Environment (OE). The processor ran at full capacity and had
an even load of more than 90 percent, demonstrating the reliability and
scalability of Sun's hardware and the IXOS-eCON server.

At the Siggraph Conference in Los Angeles recently, Sun showcased some
of its new technology demonstrations and announced new and ongoing relationships with
industry leaders in the visualization, simulation, and digital media
markets.

Sun and MultiGen-Paradigm Agreement
Vega Simulation Software for Solaris Operating Environment (OE)
Sun and MultiGen-Paradigm unveiled plans to make the Vega
application available on Solaris Operating Environment (OE). By
delivering Vega on the Solaris OE, the agreement will offer military,
government, and commercial simulation customers a cost-effective option
to deploy on a robust, highly scalable 3D platform.

TriZetto and Sun
HealthWeb on Solaris OE and iPlanet
TriZetto's HealthWeb e-business solution is available on both Sun and
iPlanet platforms. Solaris 8 Operating Environment (OE) will
serve as the preferred UNIX system-based development platform for
HealthWeb, a solution that allows health plans to open their back-end
systems to the Internet and offer real-time self-service to their
constituents. Adding a UNIX system-based operating environment makes
HealthWeb a more flexible e-business solution for the many health plans
that run their businesses on multiple operating platforms.

Sun's Fast Prototype FLEETzero Chip
Sun Labs Asynchronous Technology
The Sun Labs Asynchronous Design Group has been working on FLEETzero,
a prototype chip with raw speed roughly twice that of today's chips.
Where today's chips use synchronous circuits with a global clock to
manage activity, the new, faster FLEETzero chip uses radical new
circuits with low-power asynchronous logic elements that produce
timing signals only where and when needed.

Free Solaris Binary License Program
For Developers
Now developers can use the Solaris 8 Operating Environment (OE) at
home or at work without paying a license fee. For just the cost of
media ($45 for the Intel Platform Edition or $75 for the SPARC
Platform Edition) plus shipping, users can utilize the software on an
unlimited number of computers with a capacity of eight or fewer CPUs.
This is a price savings of forty percent. The Solaris 8 OE software
can also be downloaded free from Sun's web site.

Sun Ray Server Software 1.3 helps customers deploy Sun

Hot Desk with or without smart cards. Sun
Ray Server Software 1.3 is used to administer, manage, and provide the
screen display for Sun Ray appliances in a Hot Desk environment.

The Sun 1394 Visual Collaboration Kit provides true plug-and-play video

Priced at under $250, the Sun 1394 Visual Collaboration Kit contains a

With 24-Way Midframe Server
Sun set another new benchmark world record for PeopleSoft 8 General
Ledger, utilizing the 24-way configured Sun Fire 6800 Midframe
server running the Solaris 8 Operating Environment (OE). The Sun
Fire server achieved double the overall performance of its nearest
comparably configured competitor.

Challenges of Server Sprawl
Sun Resources Helping ASPs
In a recent column, "ASP Success Strategies," Jeanette Kennedy, director
of ASP Market Development at Sun, discussed the importance of
considering operational efficiencies when ASPs expand. After the recent
boom of "server sprawl" there are now the challenges of underutilized
resources and increased management complexity. Kennedy addressed how
Sun can help optimize with resource utilization software such
as Dynamic System Domains (DSD) and Dynamic Reconfiguration (DR),
Sun Management Center software, and Sun Cluster software.

The Netra T1 server was designed to satisfy customers who want SPARC
and/or Solaris Operating Environment (OE) reliability in a low
cost, thin, rackable, ruggedized, one-processor package. The Netra T1
AC200 server is particularly well suited for service providers and other
customers requiring a rack based computing platform that offers high
processor density, a small footprint, and an increased level of
ruggedness. The product is also designed to satisfy customers facing

Designed for E-Commerce and DB Management
Sun Standard Cluster Configurations are now renamed "Sun Cluster
Platforms"--a family of products from the SunTone Platforms
portfolio. Sun Standard Cluster Configuration E1 has now been renamed
Sun Cluster Platform 4500/3. Sun Cluster Platforms are integrated hardware and
software products that are built, configured and tested before shipment
and shipped as a single "Cluster-in-a-Rack" to the customer. Sun Cluster
Platform 4500/3 is a midrange high availability platform designed for
customers who need a reliable, quick-to-deploy, and easy-to-manage
clustered system that provides failover protection, reliable load
balancing, and continuous application access.

The Sun Ray appliance is an ideal desktop for EDA users to access
compute farm resources. The benefits are application availability,
increased productivity, reduced system administration, greater
data/process integrity, and lower cost. The Sun Ray server bundles are
designed for users in the EDA market. Included in these EDA server
bundles are a high performance UltraSPARCIII-based Sun Fire 280R
server, the newly released Sun Ray server software 1.3, and 20

Assemble-to-Order Feature Added
Sun has made significant price reductions on all Sun Fire 280R
server standard configurations ranging from 24 to 37 percent less than
current prices. The Sun Fire 280R servers are also available as
Assemble-to-Order (ATO) systems. ATO orderability provides users with
the ability to purchase fully customized systems with internal
components factory-installed.

Sun Ultra II- and IIi-based Workgroup Servers Repriced
Memory X-options also Repriced
Sun has repriced Ultra II- and IIi-based workgroup servers. Sun
produces high quality memory products that are designed to work with
both current and prior generations of the Ultra I and Ultra II-based
desktop/workgroup server lines. Sun has announced the repricing of the
128 MByte, 256 MByte, and 512 MByte Memory x-options for desktop and
workgroup server systems.

Netra Servers Now Support Sun Crypto Accelerator Board
Ships with Card, Manual, and Drivers on CD
The Sun Crypto Accelerator board, X1133A, is now supported by
Netra T 1400/1405 servers, Netra T1 AC200/DC200 servers and the Netra
E1 server, the 1U PCI expansion box. Sun Crypto Accelerator board is a PCI-
based coprocessor solution that accelerates SSL encryption on secure
webservers. Offloading several encryption routines from the main CPU
can significantly enhance the performance of a secure web server,
making it a cost effective solution for enhanced performance.
