Sun has released the following options for Solstice Backup 6.0:
Storage Nodes for distributed backup/restore: Storage Node allows
distributed backup as they support putting a tape drive, autoloader, or
library on a remote server. This lessens the traffic on the network as
the remote server will backup to a locally attached tape unit rather
than sending the data to the backup server. (Storage nodes are clients
running Solaris with the added privilege of directly backing up to
attached tapes. Only control of the backup and recovery operations
occurs over the LAN from an SBU Network or Power Edition server running
the Solaris Operating Environment.)
Cluster Clients for connection to clusters: Cluster Clients allows
co-existence with a cluster on the specified host environments.
Edition Upgrades for growing installations: Edition upgrades allow
one to move to a more powerful server or backup network (more clients,
more streams).
Autoloader Upgrades for growing tape libraries: Autochanger upgrades
allow one to move to a larger autoloader of one with more tape drives.
Solstice Backup 6.0 software is targeted at professional IT operations
staff that handle the backup, restore, and disaster recovery tasks for
Sun customers.
Customers with growing data capacities will be interested in the
upgrades (editions or autochanges) as well as the storage nodes which
provide distributed backup while maintaining centralized control.
