Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) has been selected by Sun as a Sun
Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing (HPC) Environments.
The Sun Center of Excellence in HPC Environments is a collaborative
project between OSC, Ohio State University (OSU), University of
Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and University of
Akron.
Sun's has made product end of life (EOL) announcements for the Fast
Write Cache (as a stand-alone product line), the X1334A 6U cPCI Quad
FastEthernet (QFE) Rear Access Card with PICMG2, and MicroPayflex Smart
Cards.
Sun has repriced the 128, 256, and 512 MB memory x-options for Desktop
and Workgroup Server systems and associated memory upgrades. The 1 GB
option for the Sun Enterprise 3500 - 10000 systems and 2 GB memory
options for the Sun Enterprise 3500 - 6500 systems have also been repriced.
Sun and Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. teamed up for a
one-of-a-kind demonstration at the Spring 2001 Storage Networking World
(SNW) Conference and Expo in Palm Desert, California. In a
joint initiative, the two companies have developed an implementation of
a Common Information Model (CIM) prototype for storage area networks
(SANs) using Brocade Fabric Access, the API to the Brocade Fabric
operating system (Fabric OS).

into the debugger. RTC lets you automatically detect runtime errors in
an application during the development phase. Runtime errors include
memory access errors and memory leak errors. It
also helps you to monitor memory usage.
Distributed make (dmake) is a superset of the make utility and allows
you to concurrently distribute the process of building large projects,
consisting of many programs, over a number of workstations or servers
and, in the case of multiprocessor systems, over multiple CPUs. The
dmake utility is included in every Forte Developer product.
Education thought leaders from around the world convened in San
Francisco in March to discuss education, technology, and reform at

education and research customers. The CB-SIG aims to keep this academic
community up-to-date with relevant Sun technology and open standards
initiatives, to provide support for the user community and a forum to
discuss recent scientific developments.
Universidad Tecnolgica de Mexico (UNITEC) has been named to the Sun
Campus Incubator Program. UNITEC is the second largest private
university in Mexico and the first Latin American university to
participate in this strategic program.
The current issue of Sun Journal focuses on the architecture that must
be built and put into place for smart, anytime, anywhere, always-on
services -- and some of the technologies, such as XML, underlying this
architecture.
Sun Cluster Environment: Sun Cluster 2.2, by Enrique Vargas, Joseph
Bianco, and David Deeths, is the newest book in the Sun BluePrint
series. This BluePrint describes elements that affect availability and
introduces best practices that promote good work practices. The
information in this book helps increase availability at the datacenter
level or at the single server level.
For developers and managers using Java,
there is a new community designed to address these problems: the

Nextel Communication's introduction of Motorola handsets based on Java
2 Micro Edition and Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) software
marks a new chapter for wireless data services in the United States.
Nextel is now positioned to go beyond browser-based services and
introduce a wide array of consumer and customized enterprise wireless
services.
