QLogic Corp. plans to ship Jiro-enabled SANbox switches next quarter. Based on the Java 2 platform, Jiro technology is an open, freely available set of APIs that provides developers with an infrastructure for building interoperable end-to-end storage management solutions for heterogeneous environments.

QLogic's Jiro Technology Management Facade will allow the company's Fibre Channel switch products to integrate quickly and easily into Jiro-enabled environments. It will also allow Jiro-enabled management applications to configure and monitor the performance of QLogic SANbox switches in real time.

"By supporting Jiro technology, QLogic will extend the benefits of interoperability and ease of integration to their customers," said Denise Shiffman, vice president of marketing for Sun Network Storage. "QLogic's Jiro technology-enabled Fibre Channel switches will help customers build interoperable, scaleable SAN solutions that will reduce the complexities of heterogeneous environments."

"QLogic is a strong supporter of standards like Jiro technology that simplify the SAN infrastructure. Jiro technology's intelligent connectivity creates a greater level of automation throughout the storage network, making it highly synergistic with our SANbox switch products," said Mark Edwards, QLogic senior vice president. "Jiro technology benefits both software developers and IT departments by providing an intelligent development and deployment environment that enhances SAN compatibility and manageability."

Jiro technology was developed through an industry-wide initiative launched in December 1998. Its mission is to deliver technology that enables true integration and platform-independence for the management of storage, servers, applications and devices on networks. Jiro technology provides developers with an open environment for creating and deploying storage management services and controlling, monitoring and configuring related data services.
