Sun and its technology partners unveiled an insurance provider dot-com strategy to address insurance industry requirements for the future. Sun's partners are demonstrating e-business applications, policy management solutions, and IAA solutions based on this new strategy.

"Sun has a proven track record in core financial services areas, and as insurance companies increasingly compete with or converge with other financial services segments, these organizations are turning to Sun to dot-com their organizations quickly, safely, and profitably," said Murtz Kizilbash, insurance manager, Sun Microsystems. "Sun is offering a complete, end-to-end approach based on years of experience taking startups and mature companies alike from dot-com vision to dot-com deployment for real competitive advantage."

Insurance companies continue to look for innovative ways to link up with providers, payers, suppliers, and consumers, at the same time, becoming more responsive to the needs of customers. Sun is paving the way for these organizations to adopt a dot-com strategy by providing a technology infrastructure built on SunConnect. This technology makes it possible for companies to move information from proprietary legacy environments into a seamless, Web-enabled dot-com environment. It means applying Internet standards and cross-platform technologies all through an organization, connecting the systems into a highly adaptable network for delivering integrated, next-generation solutions. The result is an organization that moves quickly, is more flexible, has better access to information, and ultimately is more competitive.

Sun helps insurance companies address the critical areas of e-Information, e-Process, e-Payment, and e-Community to help them become e-insurance providers.

  • e-Information means using cross-platform dot-com technologies to access all the information on customers and making it accessible to agents. With e-Information solutions in place, agents are equipped to provide immediate, knowledgeable service to increase customer satisfaction. At the same time, Web-based customer solutions empower customers to take advantage of self-service options.

  • e-Process means straight-through processing to meet the demand for new integrated services. With Java technology-based e-Process components, information captured on the front lines is immediately disseminated straight through to the back office where it is available to the entire enterprise. Product and customer information is easily accessible to agents and payers in real time regardless of the underlying platform.

  • e-Payment means online solutions for streamlining the claims process. To improve claims processes that are too complicated and cumbersome for customers, agents, brokers, and back-offices alike, e-Payment incorporates state-of-the-art billing and payment solutions to automate the entire process, enabling agents to enter information once. The information moves quickly through the system, and adjusters can make a quick resolution to the claim and provide customers with the payment they deserve.

  • e-Community means coming together to minimize risk. e-Community makes risk manageable by enabling insurance companies to share information across multiple organizations, regardless of format, platform, or the kind of access devices employed.

Sun, working with top technology allies, is driving the dot-com movement with the SunConnect architecture for insurance providers.
