Oracle Corporation has
licensed Sun's Java 2 Enterprise Edition. This
endorsement further soldifies J2EE technology as the
standard for developers building and deploying enterprise
applications.
Since it began shipping last December, J2EE has been licensed by
numerous leading enterprise developer companies in addition to
Oracle, including Art Technology Group, BEA Systems, Inc.,
Bluestone Software, Inc., Compaq Computer Company, GemStone
Systems, Inc., Hitachi, InterWorld, Persistence Software, Inc.,
SAS Institute, Inc., SilverStream Software, Sybase, and iPlanet
E-Commerce Solutions.
"With the addition of Oracle Corporation among the list of
official licensees of J2EE technology, it is undeniably clear
that J2EE technology is the industry standard for building
eCommerce applications," said Rich Green, Sun's vice president of
Java Software Development. "The industry agrees that J2EE
technology will allow developers to provide customers with an
open, end-end platform -- from the datacenter to the device --
upon which to build their end-to-end e-commerce applications."
"As companies transition to e-business, information and
applications need to be integrated and shared between employees,
customers, suppliers, and trading partners," said Jeremy Burton,
vice-president of Internet Platform marketing at Oracle. "Making
this vision a reality requires software based on open,
industry-standard interfaces, so that developers have a
consistent way of building and integrating applications. The Java
2 Platform, Enterprise Edition technology meets this need, and
helps make interoperability a reality. Oracle's database,
application server, development tools, and other Internet
Platform products provide a high-performance foundation for
building and deploying e-business applications based on Java
technology, and we are pleased to announce our support for Java 2
Platform, Enterprise Edition."
These licensees recognize J2EE technology's value as a unified,
integrated platform that simplifies multi-tier enterprise
application development and deployment in today's diverse
corporate environments. J2EE technology enables businesses to
protect and leverage existing infrastructure investments by
linking existing enterprise systems with new web-based
applications. Two core components of J2EE technology include
industry tested and adopted enterprise Java technologies
(Enterprise JavaBeans technology and JavaServer Pages
technology) as well as support for the eXtensible Markup Language
(XML), thus extending Java technology computing into the
enterprise-class arena.
Source code for the Java 2 Enterprise Edition is
available under Sun's Community Source Licensing program.
