Oracle: We Will 'Earn Our Spot' In Kubernetes Open Source Community
By Chris Murphy
Chris Murphy blogs, "As two Oracle technologists took the stage to announce Oracle's support for the Kubernetes open source software initiative, they were clearly aware of one fact: Open source folks aren't much impressed with announcements.

Instead, the open source community judges factors such as code contributed, community questions answered, and problems fixed. The Oracle technologists, Mark Cavage and TJ Fontaine, made clear they don't expect a free pass..."

How IoT Helps Lochbridge Drive Customer Loyalty And Profitability
By Mike Faden
Mike Faden writes, "Detroit, Michigan-based technology consulting and services provider Lochbridge has a long history of involvement with the Internet of Things: In the 1990s, the company helped a leading automotive manufacturer pioneer its connected-car offering by helping to develop the product's service-delivery platform.

3 Key Pillars of the Modern Enterprise
Oracle, June 6th 2017
Claude Robinson blogs, "What runs the modern enterprise?

'It's not what you know. It's what you do with what you know.'

So says Daniel Newman in a January 2017 Forbes article. This pretty well sums up the quest for the modern enterprise to use all the data available to drive increased productivity, reduced costs, business innovation, and personalized customer experiences...."

Video: No Pain, No Gain - Getting Started With Containers
By Bob Rhubart
Bob Rhubart blogs, "'How do I get started on containers?' Ashutosh Tripahi hears that question a lot.

"Not many people are doing these kind of things today in the production environment or even on a pilot basis, except for a few startups," he says. "One of the main reasons I see that enterprises are not using containers or Node.JS types of things is because they have monolithic applications built over a period of years, and it takes time to re-architect those applications."

As he explains, "the pain is, when you are adopting a new technology or new application, you may not be able to refactor those things that easily." But there is much to be gained by taking on that refactoring task and moving forward with adopting those next technologies...."

Lessons From Trekking The Arctic That Leaders Can Apply To Digital Transformation
By Krystal Rose
Krystal Rose writes, "Business leaders looking for direction in their digital transformation initiatives often look to top executives, consultants, coaches, and case studies. There are also lessons in leadership that can be uncovered in unlikely places, such as the North and South poles.

Robert Swan, polar explorer and author, is the first person in history to journey to both the North and South poles. He led a team in 1986 through Antarctica and a team in 1989 through the North Pole. As a customer experience consultant with Oracle, I had the privilege of conducting an interview with Swan that was streamed on Facebook Live during Oracle's 2017 Modern Customer Experience Conference..."

Moving Business-Critical Applications to the Cloud
By Bill Jacobs
Bill Jacobs blogs, "Today's guest post comes from Laura DuBois, Program Vice President for IDC's Storage practice.

Today's businesses face the challenge of building for the future while supporting the current environment. They need to run the business - and build it - simultaneously. Organizations need to build new applications to do better customer engagement, drive new revenue sources, and develop new products and services. And they need to do this while managing existing workloads that may be legacy and business-critical in nature - and running on a Unix system. The challenge: How do you manage this process, and where do you go with those business applications?

Organizations need to balance steady state while building for the future, but they also need to balance business and IT objectives. Most CIOs want to do three key things: reduce costs and increase efficiency, minimize and mitigate risk, and better align IT strategies with the business. To achieve these objectives, CIOs must consider questions such as:..."

How An Architect Becomes A Cloud Architect: The Modern IT Career
By Alexa Morales
Alexa Morales writes in Forbes, "When companies 'lift and shift' software workloads to the cloud, the move is often overseen by a cloud architect. Likewise, planning how to build an application from cloud platform services is typically the purview of a cloud architect. So how does a software architect become one of these highly sought-after cloud architects? The role is more than just a glorified networking expert, database guru, or sys admin, and there are essential skills that are much more important than certifications..."
Want More from Cloud? New Exadata Subscription-Based On-Premise Services
By Edgar Haren
Edgar Haren blogs, "Today we have a guest blog from our peers on the Oracle Cloud Machine team. Today Anne Plese Director, Product Marketing, Cloud Infrastructure Database Solutions discusses the value of Oracle Exadata Cloud Machine and the use cases behind this solution.

Cloud-integrated engineered systems for Oracle Databases address many of the key concerns that inhibit enterprises from making a swifter transition away from legacy on-premises infrastructures. It's fair to say that the vast majority of companies are well aware of the benefits provided by cloud-hosted applications. But for businesses that have real or perceived concerns about implementing cloud-hosted solutions for their more complex database, analytics, or OLTP needs, many of the benefits this technology provides are just out of reach..."

Making Business Smarter: 3 Misconceptions About Artificial Intelligence
        Information Age, June 6th 2017
"Busting three AI myths to help make business smarter: AI is still far in the future, AI isn't going to have a big impact on work and AI will replace human employees..

Artificial intelligence (AI) is not always easy to understand. It has a long and complex history that dates to the 1950s. Up until recently, the development of AI has been relatively slow and commonly confused with automation. The two are often referred to in the same sentence, but have distinctly different uses.

Automation is the process of making software (or indeed, hardware) automate routine tasks, following a prescribed set of instructions. By contrast, AI focuses on developing intelligent machines that can display human behaviours and thought processes..."

How Machine Learning Is Impacting The Way We Test Software
          TechZone360, June 5th 2017
"You may have heard the phrase 'machine learning' without understanding what it means. Essentially, machine learning refers to computers or software platforms 'learning' over a period of time. It has been around almost as long as computers have existed, but today's machine learning is remarkably different.

In the past, machine learning was largely driven by patterns, trends, formulas and algorithms that were fed into the machine or software in question by programmers. In other words, it was not autonomous or truly 'smart,' in the sense that it couldn't analyze a set of data and learn on its own..."

In April, United Airlines hit a huge pocket of public relations turbulence after a passenger was forcibly removed from one of its partners' airplanes. The incident raised questions about blindly following procedures, passenger rights, and United's executive leadership.

Here's another question it raised: Could artificial intelligence (AI) have prevented the embarrassing drama from even happening?..."

10 Essential Components Of An Effective Disaster Recovery Plan
              eWeek, June 6th 2017
"Data is the lifeblood of any enterprise. However, backup and data recovery investments can be difficult to sell internally because their benefits aren't readily apparent on the bottom line. Just like any insurance policy, these systems matter most when the unpredictable happens, such as a hurricane, fire, flood or cyber-attack.

With data and cyber-security in the spotlight, enterprises of all sizes are taking a closer look at how to cope if and when a breach or other incident that impacts the business occurs. Having a well-designed disaster recovery (DR) plan can be the difference between bouncing back from an incident or going under. In this eWEEK slide show, Larry Novak, service manager for cloud recovery at ViaWest, highlights the key components an effective DR plan should have..."

Measuring The Business Success Of Artificial Intelligence
              Information Management, June 6th 2017
"When they think of Artificial Intelligence (AI), most people picture a future world that Hollywood and technology visionaries have painted for us, filled with androids, autonomous vehicles, and other futuristic toys. Here in 2017, things are moving just as quickly in the boardroom where business leaders are scrambling to integrate AI into their enterprises.

Forrester Research recently predicted that investments in AI will increase by more than 300 percent in 2017 compared with 2016. Additionally, IDC estimates that the AI market will grow from $8B in 2016 to more than $47B by 2020..."

              SearchStorage, June 7th 2017
"With support for block, file or both types of data on the same device, unified storage architecture is a flexible storage option for the modern data center...

Having to support two types of storage architectures to run applications that use storage at the block- or file-level is a thing of the past for enterprises that have given unified storage systems a try. Unified arrays can store data and applications used to run and manage file, block or both protocols on the same device..."

              Calculating Hyperconvergence Costs
              NetworkComputing, June 7th 2017
"Hyperconverged infrastructure is a hot area of IT right now. The realization that next-generation storage appliances look a lot like servers triggered a movement to make server storage sharable, bringing together the benefits of local storage in the server with the ability to share that storage across the whole cluster of nodes.

The key is a software package that presents all of the storage in the cluster as a single pool, with automated addition or subtraction of drives. This pool of storage, sometimes described as a virtual SAN, can be divided up and presented as smaller drive volumes, subject to access controls and sharing rules. The virtual SAN software handles issues such as replication and erasure coding groups and also deals with drive errors and data recovery questions..."

              All-Flash Array Market Grows 48% In Q1
Enterprise Storage Forum, June 7th 2017
"All-flash arrays (AFA) are a few of the bright spots in the declining market for enterprise data storage hardware.

An AFA can offer comparatively blistering storage performance versus traditional storage arrays stuffed with spinning hard drives. This often translates into more responsive business applications, faster transactions and less of a wait for data analytics and a variety of other workloads to complete.

In light of these benefits, it's no surprise that enterprises are increasingly investing in AFA, despite the price premium..."

    , June 5th 2017
"With the world expected to create 163ZB of data annually by 2025, global demand for storage continues to increase as data needs are growing exponentially. Organizations, especially mid-sized companies looking to drive business growth, need to refine their approach to IT in response. IT leaders, for example, must determine which business applications to manage in-house and which to send to the cloud, how to optimize their existing hardware investments, and which data to save and secure long-term in order to meet evolving customer needs and regulatory requirements..."
                120 Companies In Software-Defined Storage
      , June 8th 2017
"Condor Consulting Group has just released a new study about software-defined storage (SDS). Here is an abstract.

As an industry buzzword with a broad coverage, it deserves some clarifications. You find below an extract of the report.

Definition and segmentation First, it's important to define the SDS term we use and categories we have established to segment the SDS market offering

                • We define SDS as software that transforms commodity servers equipped with local storage into a storage pool and services exposed to applications with industry file sharing protocols, block access methods or object APIs.

We have identified a little bit more than 120 players segmented in 5 categories:..."

The Billion Dollar War Over Maps
                CNN Tech, June 7th 2017
"During a test drive near Ford's Michigan headquarters, the team noticed something strange with its self-driving cars. Each car shifted slightly at the same point in the lane "as if they were avoiding a pothole," says Jim McBride, Ford's senior technical leader for autonomous cars.

The problem wasn't the cars -- it was the map.

The team had just updated its 3D map of the test route, which helps guide self-driving cars. But a minor glitch caused one pixel on the map to have the wrong data value. It told the car a spot in the ground was raised 10 inches, when it was perfectly level..."

                    HPCWire, June 7th 2017
In the first quarter of 2017, worldwide server revenue declined 4.5 percent year over year, while shipments fell 4.2 percent from the first quarter of 2016, according to Gartner, Inc.

'The first quarter of 2017 showed declines on a global level with a slight variation in results by region,' said Jeffrey Hewitt, research vice president at Gartner. 'Asia/Pacific bucked the trend and posted growth while all other regions fell.

'Although purchases in the hyperscale data center segment have been increasing, the enterprise and SMB segments remain constrained as end users in these segments accommodate their increased application requirements through virtualization and consider cloud alternatives,' Mr. Hewitt said.

Strategic Guidelines For CIOs To Lead The Digital Age
                        CIO, June 5th 2017
"In this new era of industrial revolution, senior executives cannot afford to ignore the importance of digital innovation and its impact on the business environment, the management of organizations and the entire value chain. From IT and operations to how companies compete, they must manage where innovation comes from and how organizations engage with consumers..."
It's Time CIO's Get Real About Data Security
                        InformationWeek, June 6th 2017
"Your company's success in securing its data and network could depend on how the CIO delivers security messages to their peers in the C-suite.

Considering how the past few years have gone, it came as no surprise that the first half of 2017 has already been a terrifying ordeal in terms of the state of IT security. The WannaCry ransomware attack dominated headlines around the world becoming the largest and fastest growing malware in history. Additionally, data and infrastructure security professionals are being inundated with a constant stream of newly identified security flaws on hardware and software deployed on production networks..."

How And Why To Hire A CISO
                        CSO Online, June 5th 2017
"If you haven't yet hired a chief information security officer, you're not alone. Here are the considerations for creating the position and making the hire...

Not employing a chief information security officer (CISO) may sound foolhardy, but it is not uncommon. Only 49 percent of companies currently employ a CSO or CISO, according to Cybrary's 2016 Cyber Security Job Trends Report.

Why is this? The reasons are myriad, from the lackadaisical 'it won't happen to me' business attitude to information security to confusion around the CISO's purpose, budget constraints and trouble identifying the right candidate..."

"Have you ever wondered what it would be like to become a CTO? Aptean's Jenny Peng made the jump from CIO to CTO in January, 2017. In Part One of a two-part interview with The Enterprisers Project, Peng explained how to foster innovation for the long term in your organization. In Part Two, she talks about her transition from CIO to CTO, and the differences between the two roles..."
CIOs Must Deal With Staff Stress And Burnout (Slideshow)
                        CIO Insight, June 8th 2017
"A majority of employees said they have reached the point of job burnout, with a significant number experiencing high or extremely high stress levels at work, according to a recent survey from CareerBuilder. The situation is leading to troubling levels of job dissatisfaction, and most companies aren't providing a formal program to help staffers cope with the pressures. Another worrisome finding: Many professionals are not taking vacations..."
8 Mistakes That Make Good Employees Leave
                          The Ladders, June 5th 2017
"It's tough to hold on to good employees, but it shouldn't be. Most of the mistakes that companies make are easily avoided. When you do make mistakes, your best employees are the first to go, because they have the most options.

If you can't keep your best employees engaged, you can't keep your best employees. While this should be common sense, it isn't common enough. A survey by CEB found that one-third of star employees feel disengaged from their employer and are already looking for a new job..."

Is Shadow It Something CIOs Should Worry About?
                            CIO, June 6th 2017
"Here's the CIO perspective on shadow IT and how their peers have responded to the advent of shadow IT within their organizations...

I talked to several CIOs in the #CIOChat recently about shadow IT.Their collective wisdom is shared in this post. The first thing that impressed me in this chat is that the CIOs know the numbers. CIOs shared what they had learned from Cisco, Gartner, and Brocade. Cisco found that shadow cloud use was greater than 15 times higher than estimated by CIOs. CIOs said that Gartner's research found that more than 40 percent of IT spend is in fact shadow IT. And Brocade, which did a global survey of 200 CIOs, found that more than 80 percent had seen some form of unauthorized cloud/SaaS usage..."

"Do your storage DR plans factor in weather-related issues? Sometimes, a low-tech approach to protecting your precious data works better than the cloud.

Organizations located around coastal areas tend to view the onset of summer with equal parts of happiness and dread. IT planners are no exception. IPv6 Basics for Beginners
                              Network Computing, June 9th 2017
"If you're new to IPv6, check out this infographic to get up to speed.

After years of talk in the IT industry, IPv6 adoption is under way. The need for organizations to migrate to IPv6 gained some urgency two years ago when ARIN ran out of IPv4 addresses in its free pool. Yet billions of people use the internet today and many still are not aware of what Internet Protocol or IPv4 is, let alone IPv6.

So for those new to IPv6, the folks at telecommunications company Wavedirect, put together an infographic to educate them on the basics. Newbies can learn how IPv6 compares to IPv4, the benefits it offers, and the risks of businesses not adopting IPv6..."

Don't Be Left Behind By IPv6 Deployment, ISOC Warns Enterprises
                              CIO, June 6th 2017
"Deployment of IPv6 is accelerating -- but it's home and mobile users that are benefitting from the performance improvements first, a new report says...

They have the resources, the expertise and, though they may not realize it, the need -- but it turns out that enterprises are often the ones that don't yet have IPv6.

That's the finding of the Internet Society its latest report on IPv6 deployment, published five years after the organization began a worldwide push to deploy the new addressing protocol and almost 20 years after the protocol was defined.

Around 13 percent of the top one million websites is inviting IPv6 traffic today, it said, citing a Hurricane Electric analysis of data provided by That figure rises to around 22 percent for the top 1,000 websites..."

Researchers from the University of Michigan and Stony Brook University published a paper explaining a novel approach to IoT security challenges (pdf). The researchers pose the question:

IT Business Edge, June 7th 2017
"Three items - two surveys and a government study - that were released in recent weeks show just how serious the Internet of Things (IoT) security situation is.

Altman Vilandrie & Company found that 48 percent of responding organizations' IoT networks have been breached, some more than once.

The survey, which included results from almost 400 firms, also touched on budgetary issues. IoT security breaches are equal to 13.4 percent of annual total revenue of firms that take in less than $5 million. Almost half of larger companies with annual revenues of more than $2 billion estimated just one breach could cost more than $20 million, according to the press release..."

How One Company Uses Internet Of Things Sensors And Big Data To Combat Food Waste
                              Silicon Angle, June 4th 2017
"Food waste in the United States is a seemingly intractable problem, with some reports stating that about half the food produced in the U.S. is not eaten.

The wastage amounts to billions of dollars in losses, and the Environmental Protection Agency says as much as $160 billion worth of food each year ends up in a landfill instead of an American stomach.

Where the food is lost could be anywhere on the food chain: from farm to processing factory, on delivery routes, in the stores, in restaurants and in the houses where it was supposed to be consumed. Food waste has been blamed on various reasons, such as consumers being overly picky about an apple's aesthetic qualities, too much supply and not enough demand, and products becoming spoiled somewhere along the chain..."

"Many critical industries such as nuclear energy, commercial and military airlines - even drivers' education - invest significant time and resources to developing processes. The data center industry - not so much.

That can be problematic, considering that two-thirds of data center outages are related to processes, not infrastructure systems, says David Boston, director of facility operations solutions for TiePoint-bkm Engineering..."

The awesomely named WannaCry strain demanded that infected businesses and individuals pay $300 in order to unlock each machine - as well as the data stored on their devices. Dark Reading, June 7th 2017
"The compromise and misuse of identity credentials provides the easiest doorway into an enterprise network, and the quickest path to its most valuable assets. It also extends beyond the realm of employees to business partners, and even customers where this information is leveraged for fraud.

The recently released 2017 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) found that a whopping 81% of hacking-related breaches use either stolen and/or weak passwords. In other words: the breaches came from compromised identities..."

Data Center Dynamics, June 7th 2017
"A data center failure now has wider reaching consequences than ten years ago. Amidst the responsibility to mitigate cyber-attack risks, it's imperative to be aware of what those risks are and their full implications.

Whilst the focus remains on IT cyber security the M&E systems are open to attack. There is still a lack of awareness regarding M&E data center vulnerabilities despite the ICS (Industrial Control Systems) experience. In part attributable to the perception that data center M&E systems are air-gapped, the issues exists because it concerns M&E firmware and therefore falls neatly between IT and Engineering..."

                                  CSO Online, June 5th 2017
"If you want to meet a really smart hacker, talk to a cybersecurity defender. These talented professionals are working every day to make cybercrime harder and less lucrative.

The long, awkward silence is always the first sign that a previously over-confident hacker realizes he's suddenly become the victim. It happens every time.

The malicious hacker had been firing his 'on cannon' at my network address trying to overwhelm my home computer and internet connection. I had sent him an email the day before letting him know that I knew who he was, what he did for a living (he was a budding wedding photographer), his name (Rick), and that he was newly married to a beautiful girl. That's enough to frighten off most hackers, but sometimes, like Rick, they persist..."

There will always be someone out there with the skills and motive to figure out how to penetrate even the most expensive, most comprehensive, most state-of-the-art cybersecurity system. Business 2 Community, June 7th 2017
"It's been a rough year for cybersecurity. Among the myriad breaches, breaks, hacks and other cyber threats, it's incredibly clear that for most, internet security is still a foreign subject.

Among the more frequent attacks this year is phishing schemes, which target unsuspecting victims through an email or text message. When a user opens the message and clicks the link inside, their network becomes infected with a type of malware that gives the hacker a virtual doorway into their network.

One of the biggest cases of phishing schemes this year was the recent ransomware attack involving Google Docs. Hackers sent out thousands of Google Doc invites with a malicious link contained in the message. When someone clicked the link, the ransomware immediately infected and took over their browser, holding their network ransom..."

Unfortunately, we often overlook the risks and vulnerabilities that employee turnover can introduce, particularly from an IT security standpoint.

Although disgruntled employees and whistleblowers raise the most alarm, don't be naive: not every outbound worker is an Edward Snowden or a Chelsea Manning, and risks aren't limited to bad intentions. Here's How To Hire (And Keep) Great Developers
                                        Fast Company, June 5th 2017
"As commencement ceremonies wrap up across the country, throngs of new grads are revising resumes, networking - a few might be prepping for one last summer of travel - but they're almost all thinking about the same thing: jobs. That means recruiters will soon have a new crop of young talent to sort through.

Of all the roles they'll have to fill, developer jobs can be one of the trickiest. Developers have more power over most of our lives than we tend to think. Sometimes it's something tiny, like the way 'snooze' works on your smartphone's alarm clock; sometimes it's something bigger, like the stories Facebook's algorithm puts into your news feed. Yet despite developers' hidden influence, most businesses, especially outside of Silicon Valley, still treat them like glorified typists..."

"While every career involves a bit of luck and serendipity, they can and should be managed...

Several of my futurist colleagues and I have been thinking about where, in these turbulent times, IT executives should go for career advice.

We began by considering how IT career advice has evolved. Thirty years ago, the field of IT career advice was an unregulated wilderness of divergent actors. There were academics, rock-star executives, psychologists, bestselling authors, shamans/gurus and snake-oil salesmen..."

"When businesses go about things right, big data is an extremely valuable tool that can provide specific types of analytics that help those companies find or maintain success. However, without employees on staff who know how to interpret the data and apply it to a company's everyday operations and future plans, even the most powerful big data resources are largely useless. Below are three types of big data analytics that are proving increasingly relevant. Let's look at why businesses need to hire people who have solid understandings of them..."

"Big Data tools, clearly, are proliferating quickly in response to major demand. In the decade since Bid Data emerged as a concept and business strategy, thousands of tools have emerged to perform various tasks and processes, all of them promising to save you time, money and uncover business insights that will make you money. Clearly, Big Data analytics tools are enjoying a growing market.

Many of them started out like the initial Big Data software framework, Hadoop, as open source projects, but commercial entities have sprung up rapidly to provide either new tools or commercial support and development for the open source products.

Weeding through them all can be a challenge especially since many Big Data tools have a single purpose and you can do many different things with Big Data, so your analytics toolbox can get rather filled up. We'll run down a list of major Big Data analytics tools and then three major categories to keep in mind, as recommended by an expert consultant in this field..."

"Looking for a cancer-causing variation requires the examination of literally millions of different spots within the human DNA in thousands of individuals - a seemingly overwhelming amount of information. In fact, until recently it was so much data that the storage and processing capacities of computing platforms couldn't efficiently handle the loads, which limited the work of scientists searching for cures.

The researchers at Arizona State University, however, thought big data computing could be just the tool they needed to start making some serious breakthroughs..."

That's because an image can often convey "what's going on", more quickly, more efficiently, and often more effectively than words. Big data visualization techniques exploit this fact: they are all about turning data into pictures by presenting data in pictorial or graphical format This makes it easy for decision-makers to take in vast amounts of data at a glance to "see" what is going on what it is that the data has to say..."
5 Best Practice Tips To Secure Your Big Data
                                            SmartDataCollective, June 5th 2017
"Business intelligence is the buzzword making the rounds in corporate circles. To achieve said intelligence, algorithms and predictive analytics are employed, and for that big data is a prerequisite. In this day and age, where literally everything is measured and monitored, there are vast quantities of data generated which can be used in many beneficial ways.

The difficulty arises not only in deciding how to analyse the data for useful insights, but rather how to protect the information. The data dealt with could be sensitive and cause problems for companies if unwittingly divulged. The goal of securing big data was undertaken by the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) recently, with the release of The Big Data Security and Privacy Handbook comprising useful tips for data storage, encryption, governance, monitoring and security.

Herewith are five practices that can be undertaken to secure big data..."

                                            Information Management, June 7th 2017
"With data becoming the new currency of the digital era, many organizations are tempted by the idea of building a future pot of gold. While plenty of them feel inclined toward the notion of 'storing first, and asking questions later,' few organizations have thus far succeeded in monetizing their efforts.

With data storage prices strongly on the decline, and thanks to emerging digital technology, building large-scale data silos has become cheaper and easier than ever before. As evidence, PwC recently came up with a catchy and eye-opening illustration when comparing storage prices over time. In 1964, a terabyte of storage would have cost US $3.5 billion, compared to a mere US $27 in 2016..."

                                              Big Data Architecture
                                              Datamation, June 8th 2017
"Big data architecture is the foundation for big data analytics. Think of big data architecture as an architectural blueprint of a large campus or office building. Architects begin by understanding the goals and objectives of the building project, and the advantages and limitations of different approaches. It's not an easy task, but it's perfectly doable with the right planning and tools.

System architects go through a similar process to plan big data architecture. They meet with stakeholders to understand company objectives for its big data, and plan the computing framework with appropriate hardware and software, data sources and formats, analytics tools, data storage decisions, and results consumption..."

However, only a real programmer knows the blood and sweat that goes into making the final product. Through this process, there will be times when a coder ends up racking his brains for hours on end to figure out a solution to the jam he's in. A wise programmer once said, you're not coding if you don't bang your desk in frustration a few times. New solutions provide visibility, simplify migration and protect critical data across clouds with no lock-in

Veritas Technologies, a leader in multi-cloud data management, today announced new solutions that provide organizations unprecedented visibility into cloud-based data, bi-directional cloud migration for critical workloads and snapshot-based data protection optimized for multi-cloud environments. These latest technologies build on recent alliance and partnership announcements with a variety of public cloud providers including Google, IBM and Microsoft.

Today, organizations looking to fast track cloud adoption in the multi-cloud world face compounding challenges, like a lack of data visibility, complicated migration paths that also frequently result in cloud lock-in, and a mistaken perception that because data is in the cloud, it does not need to be protected. Also, as organizations globally become more reliant on digital information, with data spread across multiple clouds, ensuring governance across the board is becoming increasingly complex.

He has led the cybersecurity giant for about a year after it acquired network defense firm Blue Coat, which he formerly led, for more than $4.6 billion. Since then, he has been plowing ahead with a revamp of the 35-year-old company. At the core of that transformation are two big bets: one on the integration of Blue Coat's technology, which protects corporate networks from digital attacks; the other on a $2.3 billion purchase of LifeLock, which protects consumers against identity theft..."

But the cybersecurity landscape has changed dramatically over the years. While spam and rudimentary computer viruses were the enemy back them, today record-breaking IoT-based botnet attacks and global ransomware like WannaCry are the norm.

As a result, large established security vendors - including Symantec, Cisco, IBM, Check Point and Intel - have a harder time competing against emerging vendors like Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Trend Micro, FireEye and Forcepoint, according to a Technology Business Research (TBR) report released in February..."

Powered by automated enforcement, real-time intelligence and machine learning, SDSN knows when and how to defend an organization's people, data and infrastructure, while using an open framework to help simplify their operation.

As cybersecurity has grown increasingly complex, organizations have been forced to cobble together disparate security products in the hopes of improving their cybersecurity posture. However, these unintegrated solutions leave gaps in protection and result in complicated and inefficient infrastructure. Juniper's SDSN platform and its ecosystem help organizations unify security for these heterogeneous networks, giving customers a streamlined way to integrate products and manage their security operations, regardless of the vendors they choose.
