Outsourcing Inc. Standardizes on Oracle Identity Cloud Service
Selects solution that enhances security while not compromising on ease-of-use
Oracle announced that Outsourcing Inc., the leading outsourcing services for manufacturing companies, selected Oracle Identity Cloud Service, a next-generation security and identity management cloud platform that is designed to be an integral part of the enterprise security fabric.

Outsourcing is experiencing rapid growth to address the changes of its customer-base. Its sales for the period ending December 31, 2015 reached a record high 80.8 billion Yen, and it has grown by 36 percent year-after-year. Currently, the company focuses on key industries such as IT, construction, and healthcare. It has invested 43 billion Yen in mergers and acquisitions and has 31 subsidiaries in Japan and 54 subsidiaries worldwide.

Top 4 CMO Priorities For 2017
By Michael Hickins
Michael writes in Forbes, "And chief information officers thought they had it bad? The joke used to be that CIO stands for 'career is over,' but I'm not sure what the joke CMO acronym might be, other than 'clean my office out.' Executive search firm Spencer Stuart puts the average tenure of chief marketing officers at 44 months - barely more than three years.

Indeed, when much is given, much is expected. CMOs are now awash in customer data, and that's supposed to be pure gold, with no panning necessary. And while CIOs are struggling with flat or diminishing IT budgets, CMOs seem to have a license to print money for marketing automation technology. No wonder the clash of hyped-up expectations and cold, hard reality is giving CMOs headaches..."

2 Technical Choices By Oracle That Reveal Its Cloud Infrastructure Strategy
By Chris Murphy, Oracle, February 8th, 2017
Chris writes in Forbes, "Oracle's investments in its infrastructure-as-a-service architecture, especially as they apply to helping companies move existing data center workloads into the cloud, reveal where Oracle expects to differentiate its IaaS offerings from those of Amazon Web Services.

Why should business or government leaders care about this technical differentiation? "They'll try to move their stuff to other clouds, and they'll find out they can't move it," says Clay Magouyrk, vice president of engineering for Oracle's cloud infrastructure service and a former Amazon engineer. "This is why they should care."..."

Surviving And Thriving In The Digital Economy: A Platform Approach
By Chuck Hollis, February 6th, 2017
Chuck Hollis writes in Forbes, "Much has been written about the digital transformation of individual corporate functions: marketing, sales, human resources, customer experience, and so on. I find that view far too limiting.

In the digital economy, the whole is more important than the individual pieces. A successful digital enterprise is one whose departments and functions are more connected and integrated than those that came before..."

In this blog post, we will look at a couple of different setups and how they would be used in real-life situations..."
MySQL Server log Maintenance
By lalit, February 8th, 2017
Lalits blogs, "As a part database administration, DBA has to take care of sub-components of database like server logs and has to plan for maintenance activity for these components regularly.

MySQL has various types of log i.e binary log, error log, slow query log, general log for different purposes. And after certain time these logs will grow and you will start seeing issues like low disk space, a large number of logs etc.

MySQL allows you to flush logs using flush logs command, next 'How to rotate and clean up old MySQL logs?' ..."

Tony writes, "One of the biggest and most exciting trends we've been seeing amongst customers, and the industry as a whole, is the parallel rise of DevOps and Microservices for cloud development. Linux, virtualization and of course Docker have become the key foundational elements for these next generation Cloud Native application architectures, whether deployed on-premise or in the public cloud.

We've had some exciting announcements here too in the Virtualization and Linux teams with more to come. Most recently we've just launched the Oracle Container Registry where you can pull many of Oracle's software platforms including MySQL, Oracle Database 12c, Oracle WebLogic and of course Oracle Linux itself..."

Announcing Software Collections 2.3
By Avi Miller, February 10th, 2017
Avi blogs, "We are pleased to announce the release of Software Collections 2.3 to the Unbreakable Linux Network and the Oracle Yum Server.

The Software Collections library allows you to install and use several different versions of the same software at the same time on a system. Software collections are primarily intended for development environments. These environments often require more recent versions of software components such as Perl, PHP, or Python to access to the latest features. However, they also need to avoid the risk of disrupting processes on the system that rely on different versions of these components..."

  • Power of the Platform: How to Fast-Track the Value of Big Data
  • Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 4pm Eastern Time

Big Data offers big advantages, but getting to the starting line can be problematic. Many projects run into hurdles just trying to access and load the data that will fuel key insights. There is a significant impedance mismatch between traditional data practices and the new systems that manage Big Data. But under the covers, many of the same principles still apply, including the importance of a metadata-driven approach to help navigate the complexity of Big Data technologies. Oracle's de-coupling of logical design and physical implementation layers greatly facilitates the rapid orchestration of Big Data solutions that provide business value..."

Javapocalypse soon! Oracle warns devs to bin plugins, fast
    The Register, February 6th, 2017
The last browser to support NPAPI plugins - Firefox 52 ESR - should appear in March

Simon writes in The Register, "Oracle's warned developers who still expect browsers to run code developed for Java plugins to get busy finding an alternative.

The developers behind all major browsers have decided the NPAPI framework invented last millennium by Netscape has had its day, because there are now better ways to do multimedia and other fun stuff inside a browser. Chrome therefore binned plugins in 2015, IE gave up ages ago, the fat lady sang at Opera during 2016 and Safari has stopped bothering too..."
