Javapocalypse soon! Oracle warns devs to bin plugins, fast
The Register, February 6th, 2017
The last browser to support NPAPI plugins - Firefox 52 ESR - should appear in March

Simon writes in The Register, "Oracle's warned developers who still expect browsers to run code developed for Java plugins to get busy finding an alternative.

The developers behind all major browsers have decided the NPAPI framework invented last millennium by Netscape has had its day, because there are now better ways to do multimedia and other fun stuff inside a browser. Chrome therefore binned plugins in 2015, IE gave up ages ago, the fat lady sang at Opera during 2016 and Safari has stopped bothering too..."

Top 4 CMO Priorities For 2017

The joke used to be that CIO stands for 'career is over,' but I'm not sure what the joke CMO acronym might be, other than 'clean my office out.' Executive search firm Spencer Stuart puts the average tenure of chief marketing officers at 44 months - barely more than three years.

Indeed, when much is given, much is expected. CMOs are now awash in customer data, and that's supposed to be pure gold, with no panning necessary. And while CIOs are struggling with flat or diminishing IT budgets, CMOs seem to have a license to print money for marketing automation technology. Global Study Confirms Security Technology Outdated and Inadequate to Handle Today's Threats
Global IT Security Study from Citrix and The Ponemon Institute Shows Sixty-Eight Percent Of Business Respondents Say Their Organization's BYO Devices Might be Allowing Criminals To Access Corporate Networks And Data
There is no one-size-fits-all security solution to address the threat landscape today's businesses face. Each organization has unique security obstacles and obligations. Billions of dollars have been invested into IT security solutions and increasing annual security budgets has been an imperative. In fact, 98% of business respondents reported they will spend over a million dollars in 2017, per a global study by Citrix and the Ponemon Institute. However, many of the systems and people in place are still not able to handle today's threats.

Security threats increase as more devices crowd networks and as people have more freedom to work from anywhere, on any device. More devices, especially bring your own (BYO) devices are the new norm, and businesses need to put information security at the top of their priority list to ensure apps and data are secure no matter where they reside or are accessed. On top of this, businesses need skilled staff to plan how they will reduce risk and improve the security of their applications and data.

An Interview with Marc Grant, Director of Infrastructure at Cornerstone Home Lending, Inc.
Cornerstone Home Lending became a Nutanix customer just a few months ago. We recently checked in with Marc Grant to see how his Nutanix deployment was going. Here are some of the highlights of our conversation.

What IT challenges were you facing before Nutanix?

We have a large Citrix VDI environment with over 1,500 desktops. That deployment was mixed with our production environment on our existing blade chassis and SAN storage infrastructure. When we started seeing degradation in performance on the VDI side, we realized it was time to refresh our CPU and memory environment. We also wanted to separate our production servers and storage from the VDI environment in order to commoditize the VDI pieces. So we decided to run a bake-off between Nutanix hyperconverged systems and HP to determine the right solution for us.

Palo Alto Networks Raises Bar with New Threat Prevention Capabilities for Its Next-Generation Security Platform
New PAN-OS 8.0 Extends Safe Application Enablement and Successful Attack Prevention Capabilities of the Platform; Simplifies Security Operations
Palo Alto Networks announced advancements to its Next-Generation Security Platform that extend the ability for customer organizations to safely enable applications, prevent successful cyberattacks, simplify security operations, and safely embrace the cloud.

Cyber adversaries often use commoditized compute power and automated tools and evasion techniques to deploy sophisticated attacks at massive scale and little cost. Security teams can find themselves struggling to address the sophistication, speed and volume of these threats - both known and unknown - using a collection of legacy security point products, manual resources and tools that fail to provide thorough application visibility and control, can't adequately identify and stop advanced attacks in an automated and timely manner, complicate security workflows, and require too much manual intervention.

Palo Alto Networks Expands Range of Next-Generation Firewall Devices with New Hardware and Virtual Appliances
Delivers Advanced Security at Scale, Offers Industry's Broadest Range of Virtual Firewall Models, and Complements New PAN-OS 8.0 Release
Palo Alto Networks announced availability of new purpose-built hardware and virtual next-generation firewall appliances that safely enable applications and redefine security performance for both threat prevention and SSL decryption, enabling customers to safely embrace the cloud and prevent successful cyberattacks across network, endpoint and cloud environments.

The new models complement enhancements to the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Security Platform PAN-OS operating system version 8.0, also introduced today, which includes more than 70 new features that deliver threat and credential theft prevention, secure cloud enablement, and more.

As organizations look to modernize their physical data centers, embrace hybrid cloud environments, and apply advanced security measures across their infrastructure, they require greater performance to handle the tremendous amount of traffic generated by the growing number of users, applications and devices. The introduction of new SaaS applications running at higher throughputs further increases demand for bandwidth performance to and from the network.

Palo Alto Networks Extends Safe Application Enablement and Breach Prevention From the Network to the Cloud with Enhancements to Its Next-Generation Security Platform
New PAN-OS 8.0, Aperture Features and Virtual Firewall Models Enable Customers to Safely Embrace New Cloud Infrastructure; Achieve Security at Speed and Agility of the Cloud
Palo Alto Networks announced advancements to its Next-Generation Security Platform that extend the ability for customer organizations to safely enable applications, including SaaS options, content and users regardless of location; prevent successful cyberattacks; simplify security operations; and securely embrace the cloud.

Security demands have evolved as new requirements and risks have been introduced, especially as organizations expand their IT architecture from traditional networks and data centers to private and public or hybrid cloud deployments. Add SaaS application usage to the mix, and the need to secure all these architectures against ever-increasing, sophisticated threats and adversary techniques being used to gain access to assets and data regardless of where they are located - the network, in the cloud, or in SaaS applications - and organizations have a multitude of complex security and operational challenges to address in order to prevent cyber breaches and achieve the cloud speed and agility promise.
