Sun is offering Web savvy developers a software engineering bundle
solution that provides $5,730 worth of hardware and software for only
$2,995 -- a price discount of just under 48%. The Enterprise
Development Platform promotion, Sun's newest solution for software
engineers, is making it even easier to put this ideal enterprise-class
workstation solution into more developers hands in order to create and
test client- and server-side software for all major computing platforms.
With it, software engineers can develop for the Solaris Operating
Environment as well as for the Java, Windows NT, Windows 98, Windows 95,
DOS, and Linux platforms.
"The emerging networked economy requires applications which run on
multiple platforms. Enterprise and software developers need low-cost,
reliable development platforms that allow them to be 'platform
agnostic'," said Ken Okin, vice president and general manager of
Workstation Products, Sun Microsystems, Inc. " This promotion is ideal
for cutting-edge software developers because on a single workstation, it
enables them to create, test and deploy next-generation Internet,
in-house and business enterprise applications for most major
environments."
The Enterprise Development Platform promotion, which is available for a
limited time, includes an Ultra 5 workstation, the SunPCi PC
co-processor card and a 1-year Sun Developer Essentials Professional
Edition software subscription -- which includes Sun Visual WorkShop C++
development environment software as well as dozens of other developer
software resources.
The unique access to all major computing environments from a single box
eliminates the need to buy a separate computer system for each supported
platform. Packaging systems and software together allows Sun
to aggressively pursue the growing number of performance-hungry users
who want the best of both worlds: the combined power of the SPARC
platform and Solaris Operating Environment, with its sophisticated
applications and precision graphics, and PC-level prices and application
compatibility. Sun's award-winning Ultra workstation line makes Sun the
only company to provide software developers with the performance and
reliability of Sun's 64-bit Solaris Operating Environment as well as a
proven balanced system architecture for the complete range of systems
from entry-level desktops to high-end servers.
