Convergent Communications, an Enterprise Network Carrier providing single-source business communications solutions, has chosen Sun's Forte Fusion and Forte for Java, Enterprise Edition to build an enterprise-wide customer care e-commerce system. The new system will tightly integrate Java-based components with Convergent Communication's Oracle and Clarify-based applications to provide a common, synchronized view of customer information across back- and front-office and operational systems.

Fusion will enable Convergent Communications to fully integrate its Business Support System (BSS) front- and back-office applications with its Operations Support System (OSS), including billing and data warehousing. By using Fusion's single architecture for the enterprise, all departments field sales, call centers and customer relationship management will have instant access to the same customer information. The result will be improved decision making and better customer service."

Convergent Communications will use Forte for Java to develop its customer self-service and self-care e-commerce applications. According to Convergent Communications, Fusions flexible architecture is directly aligned with the company's strategic goal of business flexibility. Fusion will enable Convergent Communications to build a system that is highly adaptable to rapidly changing business needs, allowing the company to easily introduce new products and services. This capability is essential for maintaining a competitive edge.

Sun's Forte adapter technology enables the rapid delivery of both standard solutions for industry-leading packages and individually customized adapters. Convergent Communications' solution will use a number of Fusion adapters, including those for Oracle and Clarify. Fusion will provide business process integration services across multiple applications, such as the routing and translation of messages via the Oracle and Clarify adapters.
