Sun's new flat panel monitor is designed to
save desktop real estate and provide a brighter, clearer and
sharper screen image. For those 'high-use' computer users, the
flat panel monitor's brighter screen and wider angle boost
efficiency as users can absorb more information from their
screens without fatigue. For customers who prefer traditional
monitors, Sun is also introducing new CRT display solutions that
feature the latest 'flat screen' Trinitron technology, which
minimizes geometric distortion and reduces reflective glare while
providing outstanding full-screen images.
Flat panel displays appeal to a growing number of Sun's technical
customers, who appreciate the lightweight, full-performance,
high-quality desktop monitors that display clearer, brighter
images.
The innovative design of the displays allows for a wide viewing
angle that allows users to view larger models on their screens.
These monitors are used in non-traditional situations, as the
design allows for more flexible work areas, layouts and
configurations, including the option of removing the monitor from
its base and hanging it from a wall. Military and defense
customers use flat panel monitors in naval, avionics or military
ground vehicles, for example. Publishers, who often have
multiple monitors on their desktops, benefit from the
space-saving innovation and excellent picture quality of the flat
panel displays.
Dual Video Inputs
Sun's high-quality 18" flat panel monitor features dual video
inputs that allow users to simultaneously connect the monitor to
two separate Sun workstations or PCs. Financial traders, for
example, are able to simply flip a switch on the flat panel
monitor to move between a spreadsheet on a PC and
mission-critical financial analysis software running on a Sun
Ultra workstation.
A Visible Improvement
Sun's flat panel monitors improve productivity in the workplace
with brighter screens and better visual quality, reducing fatigue
associated with looking at computer screens. Sun's product offers a true
8-bit panel with 16.7 million colors and excellent image
rendition.
Breakthrough "Flat Screen" Technology
The breakthrough flat screen CRT Trinitron technology used in
Sun's new 19" and 21" monitors delivers sharp, detailed color
images consistently across the entire screen, even in the
corners. Designed with graphics professionals, desktop
publishers and computer-aided design (CAD) professionals in mind,
the flat screen Trinitron monitors offer a new level of image
clarity, color and brightness uniformity. These new monitors
also feature dual input controls, and the six-language digital
on-screen-display provides image zoom, color, temperature
selection, control locks and landing correction for outstanding
color uniformity.
Sun's Family of Monitors
Rounding out its family of affordable monitor options, Sun also
announced an aggressive price cut of 19 percent on its existing
17" monitor. With prices starting at $390, Sun offers its
customers a full range of high-quality, competitively-priced
performance monitors.
Xinerama Support
In addition to new monitor options, Sun enhances the image
viewing experience with new features in Solaris 7, 11/99.
One such feature is
Xinerama support, which allows users to view entire simulations,
spreadsheets or stock market analyses without having to scroll
through the application. This technology provides "panoramic"
viewing of one screen image which can be displayed across up to
12 monitors. This flexible screen viewing option is ideal for
oil & gas, mechanical CAD, electronic design automation (EDA),
financial traders and design simulators who benefit from large,
detailed application viewing.
Pricing
Sun's 18" flat panel monitor is available for $3,300. The flat
screen Trinitron monitors begin at $650. Sun's 17" CRT color
monitor is now available for just $390.
