Oracle Licensing and Support on VMware vSphere
Fight the FUD
July 24, 2012,
Volume 173, Issue 4

Several expressions of FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) regarding Oracle's support and licensing fees come under attack in a post by Michael Webster whose intent is to give users the information needed to determine exactly what they legally owe, even as they make the most efficient and economic use of their licenses, while also getting the world class support Oracle has been providing, even in a virtualized environment on VMware vSphere. Webster disputes four FUDs in considerable detail, which are:

  • FUD #1 – Oracle Licensing and Soft Partitioning
  • FUD #2 – Oracle Sub Cluster Licensing is Not Possible
  • FUD #3 – Oracle is NOT Certified to Run on VMware vSphere
  • FUD #4 – Oracle Does NOT Support Running on VMware vSphere

He also includes five key questions to ask Oracle in determining one's exact posture with respect to licensing and support entitlements.
