Outperforms Netapp FAS6240 2- and 4-node Storage Systems at Better Price Point May 1, 2012,
Volume 171, Issue 1
Oracle's BestPerf site reports the triumph of the Sun ZFS Storage 7420 Appliance in the SPECsfs2008 NFS Benchmark. The Sun ZFS Storage 7420 appliance delivered a world record two-node result of 267,928 SPECsfs2008_nfs.v3 Ops/sec with an Overall Response Time (ORT) of 1.31 msec on the SPECsfs2008 NFS benchmark. The vanquished solutions include NetApp's dual-controller and 4-node high-end FAS6240 storage systems and the EMC VG8 and NS-G8 storage systems. BestPerf notes that the Sun ZFS Storage 7420 appliance delivered 1.4x higher throughput than the dual-controller NetApp FAS6240 and 2.6x higher throughput than the dual-controller NetApp FAS3270 on the SPECsfs2008_nfs.v3 benchmark at less than half the list price of either result. The Sun ZFS Storage 7420 appliance had 3 percent higher throughput than the 4-node NetApp FAS6240 on the SPECsfs2008_nfs.v3 benchmark and registered 14 percent better Overall Response Time than the 4-node NetApp FAS6240 on the SPECsfs2008_nfs.v3 benchmark. That said it should also be noted that the Sun ZFS Storage 7420 appliance required 10 percent less rack space than the dual-controller NetApp FAS6240 and 25 percent less rack space than the 4-node NetApp FAS6240.
