Licensing Issues Give Some Cause for Concern
A number of open-source devotees are not all that happy with Oracle's decision to follow the dual-licensing path for MySQL, given the querulous response to the release of three new commercial extensions. But, insists Brian Profitt in ITWorld, part of Oracle's agreement with the European Union Commission for being allowed to go through with the acquisition of Sun was the promise that Oracle would continue to support the dual-license scheme until January 28, 2015. Until then users will have to live with commercial and open licenses and just wait for the possibility of a proprietary, Profitt writes.
