Sun Ray Server Software users running Solaris 10 are advised to download PC/SC-lite 1.3 and CCID IFD Handler 1.3.10. The PC/SC-lite 1.3 comes with three bug fixes, two of which have been described as critical. The CCID IFD Handler v1.3.10 is designed to be used with PC/SC-lite to enable PC/SC-compliant applications and middleware to use external USB smart card readers on Sun Ray clients.
PC/SC-lite 1.3
The release notes describe PC/SC-lite 1.3 as an implementation of the PC/SC-lite API, derived from the Open Source M.U.S.C.L.E. project. PC/SC (Personal Computer/Smart Card) is the standard framework for smart card device access on Windows, Linux, and UNIX platforms.
The specific bug fixes included in this version of PC/SC-lite cover:
Important items mentioned:
- The Linux platform is not currently supported
- One of two optional packages must be installed along with the PC/SC-lite base package to enable it to work with a respective set of readers. These packages include one that provides PC/SC-lite access to readers on Sun Ray thin clients, and one that provides PC/SC-lite access to external USB readers.
- Optional Sun Ray support package SUNWpcscdtu requires Sun Ray Server Software (SRSS) 4.1 or later
CCID IFD Handler v1.3.10
The CCID IFD handler v1.3.10 on Sun Ray DTUs requires Sun Ray Server Software (SRSS) 4.2 and the above mentioned PC/SC-lite 1.3. The CCID IFD handler can be used in two environments:
- CCID readers plugged directly into USB ports on a server or workstation (referred to here as a system)
- CCID readers plugged into USB ports on a Sun Ray DTU
Any use of readers on the server’s ports is functionally the same, whether the user is logged into the console or logged in remotely.
