Find out more about the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 6 in an 18-page Oracle white paper that sets out to introduce the enterprise application deployment platform with a focus on its flexibility, development productivity and extensibility, as well as its involvement with Bean Validation and the Oracle GlassFish Server 3.
The paper begins with a short history of the platform and how it evolved into a fast and easy to use platform for development of Java enterprise applications. It identifies the capabilities that make Java EE 6 a more flexible development and deployment platform and how it can apply a focused set of technologies to an application scenario. This includes profiles, pruning, new ease-of-development capabilities, and other new functionality.
Other specific technologies covered in relation to Java EE 6 are Servlet 3.0, JAX-RS 1.1 (JSR 311), EJB 3.1 (JSR 318), Java Persistence API (JPA) 2.0 (JSR 317), Contexts and Dependency Injection (CDI) for Java EE (JSR 299), JavaServer Faces (JSF) 2.0 (JSR 314), Bean Validation 1.0 (JSR 303), Connector Architecture (JSR 322), packaging, and Oracle GlassFish Server 3.
There also is a brief description of leading IDEs, such as NetBeans and Eclipse, support of virtually all the Java EE 6 capabilities described in this paper, like singletons, Web fragments, and Facelets.
