It's high time and long overdue, yet here are instructions on how to get started using the NetBeans Platform... without using NetBeans IDE.

-- Geertjan Wielenga, NetBeans

Instructions on how to get started using the NetBeans Platform without using the NetBeans IDE are outlined in a three-part blog series by Geertjan Wielenga, who provides the basic steps in accomplishing this task.

The first blog entry offers links to download the NetBeans Platform and the NetBeans Platform Build Harness. This is followed by directions on setting up a project and adding a build script.

The second part in this series explains how to use an Ant target when setting up a NetBeans Platform. Wielenga provides a script for readers to follow.

The final installment addresses the process of adding a new module to the NetBeans Platform application. Readers will be taken through creating a new module structure, registering the module with the application, and adding some basic code to the module in order to provide a feature to the application.
