Oracle's Sun Java Wireless Client is now available for Qualcomm's Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP). This means Oracle's Java implementation for mobile handsets is now pre-integrated with Brew MP, giving handset manufacturers and developers a turnkey solution to incorporate Java technology into mobile devices based on Brew MP in a consistent manner across devices.
Brew MP is a mobile operating system platform that delivers smartphone functionality across multiple tiers of devices. The operating system enables capabilities such as touchscreen, rich multimedia, window management, open platform extensibility and expanded support for native application development.
Besides providing seamless integration and coexistence of Java applications with Brew MP native applications, the Sun Java Wireless Client's pre-integration onto Brew MP brings customization and configuration tools from Oracle-Sun, enabling device manufacturers to fine-tune the solution to their target devices without modifying the Java implementation.
Jeet Kaul, vice president of Java Engineering at Oracle, commented that this pre-integration "gives Java developers access to an even larger universe of mass-market mobile devices."
Listing the benefits of this product partnership, Qualcomm CDMA Technologies VP of Product Management Jason Kenagy said the wireless ecosystem now has a variety of portability, consistency and time-to-market assets.
"Oracle's Sun Java Wireless Client is the preferred Java technology solution for Brew MP," he said.
