Pick to Order (PTO) configurations are available for Oracle's Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 Server with new 2.75GHz SPARC64 VII Processor. The newly enhanced server also offers a new 667MHz DIMMs X-option.
ENHANCEMENTS
The new Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 server with the 2.75GHz quad-core and dual-core SPARC64 VII processors contains the following enhancements:
- New CPU chip: 2.75GHz quad-core and dual-core SPARC64 VII processor, ECC protected 5MB Level-2 10-way associative cache.
- System clock will be changed to 306MHz
- New DIMMs at 667MHz to be introduced. Customers should note that the new 667MHz DIMMs will work in the original M3000 Jupiter system; however, the original 533MHz DIMMs will not work in the new M3000 Jupiter+ system.
- XSCF firmware will be changed to accommodate new frequency, no firmware change is required for FMA portion.
- Interconnect speed is now 1224MHz.
- Minimum OS support is S10 9/07 (Update 4) + Maintenance Update 8 (MU8).
- Solaris 10 10/08 (Update 6) and higher require no patches for Jupiter+ support.
- The LSI Firmware has been upgraded to support the external SAS port.
EXPECTED BENEFITS
How can customers can save while increasing performance with the single-socket M3000?
Performance
- The Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 server with the 2.75GHz quad-core processor produces up to 23% faster performance compared to the former 2.52GHz SPARC64 VII processor at the same price point.
Cost Savings
- Consolidate two V445 systems onto one M3000 2.75GHz processor and customers will not only maintain their current performance levels but also: 1) Save over $92,000 in hardware, service, power consumption, and floor space; 2) Reduce power consumption by 75%; 3) Reduce cooling by 75%; 4) Reduce CO2 emissions by 75%; 5) Reduce floor space by 75%
Product Investment
- Demand for the Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 server product has grown 250% year over year since it was introduced, the company reports. In that time frame, Sun has enhanced the original M3000 system by introducing a dual-core model, a 300GB Hard Drive option, and 8GB DIMMs.
UPGRADE
The M3000 is only available in PTO configurations, therefore upgrading from the 2.52GHz processor to the 2.75GHz processor requires purchasing a new 2.75GHz system.
Trade-in allowances for the Sun SPARC Enterprise servers are available for up to 15%. Customers can trade-in qualified Sun or non-Sun servers to receive the trade-in allowance, which is also available on x-option component part numbers.
