Java for Business is a support offering that provides up to 15 years of support for versions of Java SE that have reached their End of Life (EOL) status and access to releases of software that are unavailable anywhere else. Created for customers who wished to continue using J2SE 1.4.2 after it had reached EOL status, Java for Business allows customers to continue to receive security updates and minor feature updates for up to 10 years with Standard or Premium support levels, and up to 15 years with a Premium Plus support plan.
Customers can continue to freely download and use traditional Java SE, which Sun supports at no cost for three years per release family. Or, they have the option of staying on an older release past its support life and purchasing Java for Business for up to 15 years of support as well as access to Java for Business updates and revisions.
Support is available in four levels:
- Access-Only: offers continued access to software updates for EOL’d releases but without any technical support. Access-Only is perfect for customers who are using legacy applications with no bugs or problems but that wish to continue to receive security updates and general bug fixes and platform enhancements for Java.
- Standard Support: offers 10 years of maintenance and support, 12x5 support coverage, ongoing software updates, and knowledge base access. Standard support is perfect for customers whose primary interest is in running their Java applications much longer than ever possible before.
- Premium Support: offers Standard support features but with 24x7 support coverage, access to standard revisions (defined below), and Sun VIP Interop Support. Premium support is perfect for customers whose Java application is critical for their business and/or their customers’ businesses. With Premium support, customers can access fixes provided by Sun through bi-weekly releases called revisions. These revisions can be used internally or externally, thus ensuring your network of customers and partners can leverage that same fix quickly.
- Premium PLUS Support: offers Premium support features as well as the ability to request custom revisions, accelerated access to a back-line engineer, 15 years of maintenance, and five additional years of extended support life for a product family. Premium Plus support is perfect for customers whose business depends on Java and who seek to completely leverage Sun’s technical expertise.
Additionally, ISVs, service providers, and system integrators can pass along the expanded support life of Java for Business to their customers as a licensed Solution Provider.
