how to use the Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System for a typical SugarCRM deployment and development environment

Praneet Tiwari sets out to prove the feasibility of using the Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System as a repository for the MySQL database with the SugarCRM application. This technical BigAdmin feature article uses Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System release 2008.Q4 and a Sun Fire X4540 server configured with Ubuntu 8.1.0, MySQL 5.1.30 Community Server Edition, and SugarCRM Community Edition.

Besides listing the specific hardware and software configurations, Tiwari details how to create a new project using the Sun Storage 7000, which can be accessed through a web interface. He also explains how to configure both the NFS and iSCSI targets on the Ubuntu client as well as MySQL.

For this installation, users also need PHP 5 and Apache Server 2 or greater on the client to complete the SAMP or LAMP stack. Details are provided on how to accomplish the task if not already done.

Tiwari mentions that SugarCRM, which is an open source customer relationship management (CRM) solution, uses the MySQL database for data storage. If you don't have MySQL 5 or above, the author shows readers how to install it on Ubuntu. Additionally, the steps to install SugarCRM are included.

In summary, the set-up procedures should result in users having a Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System configured to provide both NFS and iSCSI volumes, and the MySQL database software installed and configured on a primary test system. The test system is configured to access the Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System first using NFS, and then iSCSI, for MySQL database storage. SugarCRM and the related stack are installed on the primary test system.

To verify everything is configured appropriately, Tiwari walks through creating a new user and then running a system test.

There is also general feature information on Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System and SugarCRM included in the 26-page PDF, which offers SugarCRM installation screens shots in its appendix.
