Deploy a Sun Modular Datacenter in 1/10th the time it takes to build a traditional brick and mortar data center.

Build-to-Order Containerized Data Center Solutions
May Include 20, 40, or 53 Foot Shipping Containers

The Sun Modular Datacenter (MD) S20, D20, and supporting options will now be offered as build-to-order configurations versus fixed configurations. The new build-to-order containerized data centers will be available through the Sun Professional Services Datacenter Efficiency (DCE) Practice.

Sun decided to introduce this next-generation of containerized data centers as a result of customers' requests for more product variability and features than are provided by the current Sun MD product line, the company reported. The new model will better serve the market for containerized data centers. The build-to-order systems will be designed and manufactured according to specific customer requirements, which may include 20, 40, or even 53 foot shipping containers with over 1000 RU of capacity.

The fixed configurations are the existing Sun MD systems. These systems are limited to 20-foot containers and a maximum of 320 total RU. Customers interested in the fixed configuration will have up to July 23, 2010 to order the product. The last ship date for the previous model will be Jan. 23, 2011 and an end of service life of Jan. 23, 2016. Customers who require additional service after that time can negotiate site specific service agreements.

The new build-to-order containerized data centers are expected to require a similar amount of deployment time as the previous ones, the company stated, which takes 1/10th the time of building a traditional brick and mortar data center.

Sun Professional Service's DCE Practice is experienced in designing and delivering turnkey data center solutions, including new data centers, data center redesigns, and containerized data centers with complete power and cooling infrastructure. The DCE Practice will be responsible for selling and delivery of both the current Sun MD product line as well as build-to-order containerized data center offerings.

DCE Practice provides clients with four core offerings:

  • IT business strategy consulting

  • IT and application modernization

  • IT operations and management

  • Datacenter strategy, design and optimization
