MySQL on Windows can reduce hardware expenditure by up to 70% and reduce downtime up to 60%

MySQL on Windows continues to be a popular choice for independent software vendors, original equipment manufacturers, hosting providers and organizations developing custom web, departmental and enterprise applications. The MySQL Website has several resources on using the open source database software on Windows, including access to a free, technical webinar set for Jan. 21.

Entitled "Windows and MySQL: What's New in MySQL Connector/NET 6.2," this webinar will explore the new features in Connector/NET 6.2, which allows for the tracing of MySQL connections, a new logging system and client-side SSL certificates. This new functionality can be used to provide new capabilities such as instrumentation, metering, auditing, security and enhanced debugging within MySQL .NET applications. The presentation begins at 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST/18:00 UTC and is expected to run about 45 minutes followed by a questions and answers segment.

Guide to MySQL for Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows has been the most popular development platform and second most popular production platform for organizations developing MySQL applications. An indication of this can be seen in the MySQL annual survey conducted in early 2009, which found 66% percent of those surveyed used Windows for development and 48% ultimately deployed into production on Windows. Why? This paper answers the question, as is evidenced in some of its Table of Contents topics:

  • Easy to Deploy
  • Easy to Develop
  • Easy to Manage and Monitor
  • Why MySQL Over Microsoft Office Access 2007?
  • Why MySQL Over SQL Server Express 2008?
  • Why MySQL Over SQL Server Enterprise Edition?
  • Lower TCO than Microsoft SQL Server 2008
