Sun Ops Center 2.5 offers enhanced support for virtualization solutions such as Solaris Zones. Owen Allen briefly highlights what users can do with Zones in the latest release of this comprehensive management software for physical and virtual systems. This includes managing, monitoring and working with both global and local Zones.
In Sun Ops Center 2.5, Zones can be found under the assets menu and are displayed under the system that they are on. Just like any other asset, users can manage Zones - boot, shut down, delete - and also provision new global zones or update the OSes for both global and local ones. Resource utilization of Zones can be monitored from here as well. Further, Zones can be moved and reassigned resources remotely.
Users who decide to create multiple Zones through Ops Center have the additional option of migrating Zones between Containers and managing the networks and storage associated with various Zones.
Allen provides accompanying screenshots of some of these new capabilities for users to follow along.
For those interested in learning more specifics on Ops Center, Sun is now offering a five-day in-class course that covers most aspects, including installation and configuration, existing features like asset management and OS provisioning and patching, and new features like Solaris Container and Sun Logical Domain management. There is also a Live Virtual Classroom course on the same basic material. This class is taught by a live instructor over a webcast, and uses the same labs as the in-person class.
