New 2.53GHz Quad-core SPARC64 VII Processors Options for Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 and M5000 Servers
Get a new higher performance 2.53GHz quad-core SPARC64 VII processor for Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 and M5000 servers and without any increase in cost. The new quad-core 8 thread SPARC64 VII processor option operating at 2.53GHz includes 5.5MB L2 cache.
The SPARC64 VII quad-core options can be mixed and matched in the SPARC Enterprise M4000 and M5000 servers with the current SPARC64 VI (2.15GHz) and SPARC64 VII (2.4GHz and the new 2.53GHz) options. The 2.53GHz SPARC64 VII processor options are fully compatible with current SPARC M-series application, systems and systems options.
Each processor consists of four SPARC V9 cores with two simultaneous threads per core, SPARC64 VII is built with an advanced 65nm Cu 10-layer process technology for high speed and density. Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) improves throughput on the SPARC64 VII. This multithreaded technology enables the multithreaded control instructions to run in parallel across both threads in a core. There is no thread context switch time and the two threads in the core share the instruction pipeline smoothly. SMT increases the CPU throughput from 40 to 80 percent. L2 cache misses are hidden very effectively using SMT technology.
The SPARC64 VII processor options are supported on all SPARC Enterprise M4000 and M5000 servers with minimum system XCP version 1090 and Solaris 10 5/09. Note, SPARC64 VII options can be supported with Solaris 10 10/08 with required updates.
Upgrades are available through the Sun Upgrade Advantage Program (UAP), which offers comprehensive trade-in programs for upgrades to Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000-M5000 servers. Qualified system trade-ins are now eligible for a maximum trade-in allowance of 15% applied to the list price of the replacement Sun SPARC Enterprise M4000 and M5000 server.
Installation service is optional. Sun Services' Enterprise Installation Services (EIS) is a comprehensive installation and configuration service to ensure the system's optimization for stability and performance begin right from the start. System board installation is included with the initial chassis install, and Sun does offer subsequent system board installation service.
