"Deploying Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition"
With Sun Servers, Solaris, Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage Systems

An enterprise deployment architecture for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition using Sun servers running Solaris and Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage systems is described in a Sun BluePrints article. The architecture brings fault tolerance, security, resiliency and performance to enterprise deployments, and can be used to consolidate multiple tiers onto a single system through the use of key virtualization technologies.

The deployment architecture consists of:

  • Sun Storage 7410 Unified Storage System
  • Sun SPARC Enterprise T5140 Servers
  • Brocade FastIron LS Switch
  • Brocade ServerIron
  • Sun Logical Domains
  • Solaris Containers
  • Sun Java System Directory Server5
  • Oracle Database 11g with Real Application Cluster Technology
  • Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition
  • Oracle WebLogic Server

The paper's coverage of the architecture implementation reports on:

  • Selecting Hardware Platforms
  • Configuring the Load Balancer
  • Installing the Solaris 10 Operating System
  • Setting Up Sun Logical Domains
  • Configuring Solaris Zones
  • Installing Oracle Database 11g with RAC
  • Installing Oracle Business Intelligence Server
  • Shared Storage Configuration
  • Oracle Business Intelligence Scheduler Configuration
  • Cluster-Aware Business Intelligence Server Cache
  • Installing Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Presentation Services
  • Installing the Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition
  • Presentation Services Plug-in
  • Configuring the Oracle Business Intelligence Cluster Controller
  • Configuring Sun Java System Directory Server

Written by Maqsood Alam, Luojia Chen, Chaitanya Kadaru, Ron Graham and Giri Mandalika, the 40-page document offers a short discussion of the performance characteristics of the architecture using a realistic workload running a series of tests that used an HP Load Runner script to simulate 2,500 users accessing business intelligence dashboards and underlying data. Best practices for deployment are related.
