Sun Fire X4170 and X4270 Servers along with the Sun Blade X6270 Server Modules to offer 500 GB 7.2K RPM, 2.5-inch SATA disk drive with Marlin brackets. The 500 GB SATA disk drive provides greater on-board storage capacity making these Sun Fire and Sun Blade servers even better equipped to handle data-intensive applications.

The new configurations breakdown as follows:

Sun Fire X4170

Eight 2.5-inch (SFF) hot-swappable disk drive slots provide up to 4 TB storage capacity. A maximum of six 500 GB SATA to be allowed when no host bus adapter (HBA) is selected. When an HBA is selected, a maximum of eight 500 GB SATA drives are supported. The 500 GB SATA drives are only supported on processors with 80W or less rating.

The specific SKUs allowed:

• X5863A and 5863A; Intel Xeon Model E5540
• X5865A and 5865A; Intel Xeon Model E5520
• X5864A and 5864A; Intel Xeon Model L5520

The SKUs not supported:

• X5861A and X5861A; Intel Xeon Model X5570
• X5862A and X5862A; Intel Xeon Model X5560

Sun Fire X4270

Sixteen 2.5-inch (SFF) hot-swappable disk drive slots provides up to 8 TB storage capacity. No 500 GB SATA to be allowed when no HBAs are selected. When an HBA is selected, a maximum of 16 500 GB SATA to be allowed.

Only LSI HBA (SG-XPCIE8SAS-I-Z, SG-PCIE8SAS-I-Z) to be allowed with 500 GB SATA. Not supported with 500 GB SATA drives are part numbers SG-PCIESAS-R-INT-Z and SGXPCIESAS-R-INT-Z (Cougar); PCI-E 8-Channel SAS RAID HBA for Internal I/O.

Sun Blade X6270

Four 2.5-inch (SFF) hot-swappable disk drive slots provide up to 2 TB storage capacity. A maximum of four 500 GB SATA HDDs to be allowed when no RAID Expansion Modules are selected. These HDDs will utilize the on-board SATA controller. These HDDs will not have hardware RAID support.

The (Jackal2) RAID Expansion Module (X)4607A is to be used if RAID support is required. The (Coyote) RAID Expansion Module (X)4620A is not supported with this HDD.
