Ops Center offloads Windows patching to Configuration Manager, giving users a single pane to patch Solaris, Linux and Windows OSes.
The Sun Ops Center 2.5 comes with the ability to patch Windows operating systems through Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager. A recent screencast highlighted by Owen Allen in the Ops Center blog takes viewers through the Windows update process, which basically involves:
Configuring Ops Center to work with SCCM 2007 instance. This is done by selecting Windows Update in the Administration section, and then plugging in the credentials.
Next, users need to discover and manage the Windows systems before any actual patching can be done. Allen cites one of his entries on the Ops Center blog along with another screencast that explains how to go about discovering and managing assets.
The actual Windows update is performed using reports, Allen writes. In the Reports section, set up and run a Host Compliance Report or an Incident Compliance Report on one or more Windows systems. These reports will tell users whether or not the systems are up to date. If they aren't, you can update them by clicking Make Targets Compliant, and configuring an update job.
