IDC Worldwide Tape QView Q2 CY09 reports Sun earned the most for tape storage automation revenue during the first half of calendar year 2009. Sun saw growth within its installed base as well as with new customers.

"For the first half of calendar year 2009, Sun is number one in total worldwide factory-out automation revenue," the IDC report states. "Sun StorageTek does not make autoloaders or entry automation and has the number one market position on the basis of the strength of its SL500, SL3000, and SL8500 midrange and enterprise automation."

Commenting on the report, Sun Storage Group Senior Director Jason Schaffer said, "Tape storage is highly efficient, inexpensive and continues to play an important role in helping enterprise customers store and manage growing amounts of data. Sun has once again been recognized as the world leader in high-performance, reliable and affordable midrange and enterprise tape storage solutions. We'll continue to deliver next-generation tape storage innovation to both our installed base and to new customers."

Sun StorageTek SL500 Modular Library System is a midrange system featuring redundant, hot-swappable components, and scales from 79 to 460 TB.

Sun StorageTek SL3000 Modular Library System offers true mixed media, logical and physical partitioning capabilities, advanced management, and high availability features. It scales from 200 to 3,000 cartridge slots.
