ACSLS 8.0 offers an easily extensible and maintainable library server that supports Sun StorageTek automated tape libraries.

Sun StorageTek Automated Cartridge Systems Library Software (ACSLS) 8.0
New Features Include Web-based GUI, Logical Libraries

The Sun StorageTek Automated Cartridge Systems Library Software (ACSLS) offers comprehensive and scalable monitoring, management, sharing and data protection. Version 8.0 is the latest release.

NEW FEATURES

Web-based GUI for library management and control

  • Runs as an application within the Java Web Console.
  • Alternative to traditional ACSLS cmd_proc (CLI) interface for library administration and operation.
  • Real-time monitoring of tape library components for easy and more reliable library management.

Logical libraries: provides the ability to partition physical libraries into logical libraries

  • Assign volumes and drives to these logical libraries.
  • Define by number of drives/cells.
  • Configured through GUI.
  • Thin-provisioning of library resources.

SCSI Media Changer Fibre Channel (FC) front end interface to logical libraries

  • Allows both non-ACSAPI and ACSAPI applications to share library resources
  • Allows clients to manage logical libraries using an industry standard protocol. - Each logical library is assigned to one client for exclusive control of its drives and volumes. - Legacy ACSAPI clients can manage drives and volumes not assigned to logical libraries, but cannot access logical library resources.
  • Backward compatibility with all legacy ACSLS commands and interfaces

Supports 8-character volume labels

  • Ability to accept open format volume labels (as reported by the actual physical libraries.
  • Can specify how volume labels are reported to SCSI clients. Media domain and type can either suffix or prefix the volser.

Option: ACSLS High Availability (HA) Version Supported by ACSLS 8.0

  • Minimizes tape library downtime when failures occur on either ACSLS server.
  • Failover occurs automatically without user intervention.
  • 100% Sun supported solution. Single point of contact for support. (No third party support needed)
  • Continues support for Solaris Cluster (version 3.2)
  • Sun server and storage hardware
  • Available only on SPARC systems
  • Allows OS and server hardware maintenance to occur without impact on the ACSLS application

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  • ACSLS 8.0 is a software-only product. Any SPARC or X86 platform which is suitable for running the required Solaris 10 OS Update 6 or later should be adequate for ACSLS.
  • Memory: 2 GB or greater.
  • Disk storage: 40GB minimum. Second disk recommended for database backups.
  • FC HBA (target mode) required to support SCSI FC clients.
  • I/O: Requirement determined by library connection (TCP/IP, Serial, SCSI, or Fibre). Logical library access requires a QLogic 4Gb/s Fibre HBA.
  • With the new SCSI FC interface, a 4GB-capable FC HBA with at least one port configured to operate in target mode is required. The following HBA models have been tested and validated: SG-XPCIE2FC-QF4 (QLogic Fibre HBA) and two 4-GB Fibre channel ports

The AIX platform is not supported. Existing ACSLS customers on AIX will continue to receive engineering and technical support according to Sun's support policies. AIX users are advised to contact Sun Services for specific timelines.

Sun StorageTek ACSLS is licensed on a per server and tiered number of cartridges basis (number of cartridges in the library). It is compatible with all major software backup applications including Symantec Veritas NetBackup, EMC Legato Networker, CA Arcserve Bakbone, CommVault and others.
