Information on support, licensing, and installation of the recent release of the Sun Java Communications Suite 7 is available.
An abbreviated overview of the new features in Sun Java Communications Suite 7 include:

- Instant Messaging 8: Optimizes single server performance, Yahoo gateway
- Sun Convergence 1 Update 3: UI performance improvements, shared folders, spam feedback, mailbox quota information, auto spellcheck before sending mail, Open SSO support
Licensing and Support
New customers can buy the Sun Java Communications Suite on a subscription basis or as individual point products (i.e. Sun Java System Messaging, Calendar and/or Instant Messaging) under either subscription or perpetual licenses.
The Sun Java Communications Suite does include support. Point products purchased under a subscription license also include support. Perpetual licenses do not include support but customers can purchase separate annual support contracts.
Sun Java Enterprise System
As part of a Communications Suite deployment, customers can use Sun Java Enterprise System (ES) components that support the Sun Java Communications Suite. For example, a separate Directory Server license is not required to run the Communications Suite. The requisite Sun Java ES products will be included on the Communications Suite media kit and can be separately and individually downloaded as needed. Support for these components is included in annual subscription licenses. Licenses and support for use beyond those required by the Communications Suite will need to be purchased separately. This licensing model is the same as it was prior to this release and there have been no changes to it.
Client Components
Sun Java Communications Systems client components such as Sun Java System Outlook Connector and Desktop Sync will be shipped as part of the Communications Suite and included on the DVD media kit in the client directory. Client components can then be individually downloaded.

Installation
Interested users may want to visit the Factotum blog where a recent entry relays tips from a Communications Suite 7 installer webinar. Key concepts covered: installation is a two-steps process; 32-bit versus 64-bit; installation for power users, where's Communications Express 6.3, new component products, and installing just a Calendar Server 7 back end. Multiple links to further resources are also provided.
EOL
The recent release of Communications Suite 7 brings the end of life for specific part numbers associated with earlier releases, namely Calendar Server, Instant Messaging and Messaging Server in the Communication Suite 6 Update 2. Support will continue to be available for the release, Sun announced, emphasizing that the EOL is applicable only to the part numbers that pertain to perpetual licenses and those that are version specific. Contact Sun for any specific questions regarding this EOL.
