Sun Virtual Desktop Infrastructure 3 Implementation Workshop (VM-450) is a five-day workshop that introduces Sun's VDI technology and software administration. Along with installing Sun VDI Software 3, individuals signing up for the Sun training course will be introduced to the architectural details of the software, as well as the following VDI components and features:
- Sun xVM VirtualBox and VMware Virtual Center desktop brokers
- LDAP and Microsoft Active Directory server integration
- Open Storage platform for the back-end storage of user desktops
- Sun Ray Software (SRS) and Sun Secure Global Desktop (SGD) for the display of user desktops
- Sun VDI administration tools
The course begins with a comprehensive overview of the VDI 3 architecture, followed by use of lab equipment to install and configure prerequisite components such as SGD and Sun VirtualBox. Then, students will install the Sun VDI software and learn how to configure desktop providers, which host virtual desktops, and how to use front-end user access devices, such as Sun Ray thin clients or a web browser with SGD to access assigned virtual desktops. Other skills taught include managing pools of desktops, and failover and cluster configurations for large-scale deployments.
