HPC Virtual Conference

On September 17, Sun will be hosting a virtual conference on high performance computing. The online event will feature Sun co-founder and product architect in the Systems Group Andy Bechtolsheim as well as industry experts who will be discussing the trends and issues facing the computational ecosystem. There will also be industry and technology exhibits offering virtual opportunities to discuss technologies, accomplishments, and collaborations in HPC, networking, storage, software, and data management. The agenda has been posted along with a list of speakers. There also is information on the exhibits available. Registration is required to attend.

Differences Between MPI and OpenMP

In a recent article entitled "Comparing MPI and OpenMP" posted on Cluster Connection, Douglas Eadline writes that the hardware environment may determine the best parallel programming tool to use. This particular article does not present any programming examples or explanations, but rather explains the differences between MPI and OpenMP to provide a better understanding of the two technologies.

eSeminar Panel Discussion: Flash in HPC

Discover more about flash technology from Sun, Verari Systems, Fusion-io and Spansion - all of whom are part of a Techtarget Webcast that discusses Flash deployment within HPC environments with claims of faster time to solution for HPC applications at significantly lower costs and lower power consumption than traditional disk based infrastructures. Access to the content hosted on SearchStorage.com does require registration.

Sun HPC Community Wiki

The new HPC Community Wiki is a collaborative site featuring the latest news, blogs, forums, user polls, and other activities happening around high performance computing at Sun. If you haven't done so already, take a visit.

Sun Studio Software: Developing OpenMP 3.0 Applications

Sun Studio 12 update 1 features improved binary application performance, full support of OpenMP 3.0, profiling of distributed MPI applications, unified application and system profiling using Solaris DTrace technology (DLight), a new standalone graphical debugger (dbxTool) and more. Sun Software Engineer Bin Fan demonstrates building, debugging and profiling an OpenMP 3.0 application, utilizing the application's tasking feature, in a screencast.

RADIOSS Public Benchmark Test Suite: QDR vs DDR

The benchmark suite of the RADIOSS crash code was run on both a cluster of Sun Blade X6275 server modules with quad data rate (QDR) InfiniBand and a cluster of Sun Fire X2270 server with dual data rate (DDR) InfiniBand. Take a look at the results as well as a roadmap from the Infiniband Trade Association. [...read more...]
