A new hardware and software system for the deployment of Business Intelligence (BI) infrastructure called the Sun Business Intelligence Solution for Web Infrastructure brings together Sun’s Open Networks Systems with Infobright, the open source data warehousing company, and Pentaho, the commercial open source alternative for BI.
According to Sun, this solution can save customers up to 90% in acquisition costs over proprietary software while providing scalability starting at less than $1/GB.
The solution provides users with server options and storage dependent upon data requirements, user traffic and workload. The basic level solution is comprised of the Sun Fire X4275 Server, which combines both compute and storage capabilities. For higher data requirements, users can choose either the Sun Fire X2270 Server or Sun Fire X4170 Server. Storage is provided by Sun Storage 7310 Unified Storage System and includes Infobright’s column-oriented analytic database integrated with Sun's MySQL. Pentaho BI Suite Enterprise Edition addresses the spectrum of end-user BI needs for interactive reporting, analysis and dashboards, along with data integration capabilities.
This unified solution combines a compressed, column-oriented database with what Sun terms a unique “Knowledge Grid” architecture for delivery of near real-time responses to complex queries using dynamic data. These features are just what is required for Web analytics deployments.
“The combination of Infobright, Sun Open Network Systems and Pentaho delivers a powerful, sophisticated business analytic solution at the lowest cost in the industry,” says Miriam Tuerk, president and CEO, Infobright.
