more choices for Brocade customers

Sun is now offering Brocade customers more choices with the addition of:

  • Brocade 8Gb/s 10km Fibre Channel SFPs for the Brocade 300, 5100, 5300 Switches and for the Brocade DCX Backbone Director and 48K Director 8Gb Blades (available in single and 8 packs)

  • Brocade 4Gb/s 30km Fibre Channel Extended Long wave SFP for the Brocade 200E, 48K, 4100, 4900, 5000, 7500, FR4-18i, 300, 5100, 5300, DCX, 6140 and i10K Switches and Directors

These new products provide customers with options. In terms of SFP lengths, they can now increase reach with the 4Gb/s Extended Long wave SFP. Or, for customers interested in migrating from 4Gb/s to 8Gb/s, they now have a solution for their fibre channel switches.

What do customers gain with these offerings:

  • 4Gb/s extended long wave SFP: SFP is for 30km in distance for customer's FC switch/director, allowing customers to reach farther distance

  • 8Gb/s data transfer speed: Improved performance, better response time and improved productivity.

Brocade 4Gb/s and 8Gb/s SFP's in both long wave and shortwave lengths can be intermixed. The SFPs assumes the warranty of the switch in which they are installed, or a minimum 1-year, part return-to-Sun warranty if the latter terms are better for the customer.

It is recommended that long wave length SFP's be ordered for a FICON environment.
