OpenSSO is the only access control solution that includes access management, federation and secure Web services in a single product. OpenSSO Express Build 8.0 will provide mobile one-time password. This feature is expected to allow two-factor authentication out-of-the box without the need for a third party product, and OpenSSO Express 8.0 will be the first access management solution to do so. This new version, whose download is expected to be available in a few weeks, also includes Fedlet support for .NET applications and rapid salesforce.com federation.
OpenSSO provides core identity services to simplify the implementation of transparent single sign-on (SSO) as a security component in a network infrastructure. OpenSSO provides the foundation for integrating diverse web applications that might typically operate against a disparate set of identity repositories and are hosted on a variety of platforms such as web and application servers.
Highlighted features of OpenSSO Express Build 8.0:
- The mobile one-time password allows employees to use their cell phones as a physical token device instead of a separate piece of hardware, which can help lower operational expenses. See a demo of how it works.
- The Sun Fedlet now supports .NET applications, allowing any SAML 2.0 identity provider to federation-enable .NET service providers without compromising capabilities. The download is 1.5MB and can be deployed in minutes. Companies running a single Web application that are not interested in deploying and maintaining an entire federation infrastructure can run a standalone service provider. A 3 1/2 minute demo on deploying the Fedlet for a .NET app is available.
- Rapid salesforce.com federation allows for direct access to Salesforce CRM and Force.com built applications using their enterprise login in minutes.
To understand what an Express Build is, Pat Patterson reports that they are supported snapshots of development between full OpenSSO Enterprise releases. Express Builds allow customers to get support on new features without waiting months for the full release. "The key difference between Express builds and Enterprise builds is that fixes to Express builds are rolled into the next Express build, along with new features, while Enterprise builds have 'bug fix only' service packs and hot patches available for paying customers," he writes. "Obviously, Express builds aren't for everybody, but we're finding that they work well for a lot of folks."
