Oracle and Sun set a world record four-processor result on the two-tier SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) Standard Application Benchmark running the SAP Enhancement Pack 4 for the SAP ERP 6.0 application (Unicode). The system configuration was comprised of a Sun SPARC Enterprise T5440 server equipped with four 1.6 GHz Sun UltraSPARC T2 Plus processors and the Oracle Database running on Solaris 10 for a result of 4,720 SAP SD Benchmark users.

The two-tier SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark measures the system performance to process dialog steps and order line item postings per hour for SAP solution-based transactions. A transaction consists of a full business process that captures activities from the full order processing cycle from order creation to delivery to invoicing.

Sun reports that the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5440 server is the first quad-processor system to exceed 37,000 SAPS, the hardware-independent metric that describes the performance of a system configuration in the SAP environment, all while maintaining the best Rack Unit to Users ratio.

Additionally, this benchmark proves that the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5440 server, running Oracle Database on top of the Solaris 10 OS is well-suited to act as an enterprise class OLTP database server, providing supreme levels of compute density.

The result also highlights the vertical consolidation capability of the new server which ran both the SAP application and Oracle Database on the same physical system.

In other testing, the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5440 server running the new 1.6 GHz UltraSPARC T2 Plus processor delivered world record performance on Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (BI EE) tests using Sun's ZFS. See the BestPerf blog for specifics.
