Nick Kloski and Alejandro Medrano have penned a Sun BluePrints Online article covering Sun's new reference architecture, the Open Network Systems for Internet Infrastructure, MySQL Edition. This reference architecture combines Sun Open Storage, high-performance networking and servers, open source software and Sun services into an integrated enterprise portal solution for Web and enterprise environments. This solution features Sun's Open Network Systems, next-generation Flash technology storage products, Sun's MySQL Enterprise Server, the Sun GlassFish Portfolio, the ZFS file system and a choice of OpenSolaris, Solaris, or Linux operating systems. This paper describes the hardware and software components of the reference architecture, studies the scalability of the architecture, and includes step-by-step directions for setup and configuration.
Topics included in the 31-page PDF:
Architecture overview
Describes the Sun Open Network Systems for Internet Infrastructure, MySQL Edition architecture and discusses the benefits that this architecture provides.
- Architecture provides speed and simplicity
- Hardware components
- Software components
Solution scalability
Includes scalability and database-related information that can be used to help determine proper sizing of systems.
- Results with four server modules
- Results with eight server modules
- Results summary
- Flexibility of design
Appendix: Web Space technical cookbook
Contains detailed information on the procedures and scripts that were used to configure the software components.
"Key hardware components include the Sun Blade 6000 Modular System, configured with up to 10 Sun Blade server modules running a choice of operating systems; Sun Blade 6000 Virtualized Multi-fabric NEMs; and the Sun Storage 7410 Open Storage System. Proven open-source software including the OpenSolaris operating system, MySQL database, and the Sun GlassFish software portfolio, help reduce acquisition and licensing costs," the authors write. "This reference architecture provides flexibility, scalability, and performance at a low cost, and can help enterprises quickly deploy Web services and adapt to changing requirements."
